NewportNews.com is a domain name that has quite the history. A former owner once defended a UDRP successfully but then lost an ACPA case. This led Michael Berkens to call this registrant stupid domainer of the year for 2011. Michael wrote: In 2009 Newport News won summary judgment against the domain holder and the court also awarded the trademark holder $80,000 in statutory damages AND it’s … [Read more...]
New disclaimer alert for GoDaddy Appraisal tool
Over the weekend I noticed a little triangle as an alert when using the GoDaddy appraisal tool. Disclaimer The Estimated Value is based on an algorithm utilizing data GoDaddy has available to it to help estimate predicted sale price of domains. However, we do not make any guarantee or other promises to any results that may be obtained from your purchase or sale of any domain, and this is … [Read more...]
How should auction houses handle non payment by the winning bidder?
How should auction houses handle non payment by the winning bidder? Back on October 29, I wrote about Kau.com closing at $100,350 at DropCatch. That bidder did not pay, it's being reauctioned. Is that the right way to handle things? I have written many times on how DropCatch and NameJet have benefited by GoDaddy failing to secure payment. Koupons.com closed at $6,100 on 8/17/20 at … [Read more...]

DropCatch continues to profit from GoDaddy non paying bidders
Last week I wrote about EveryDaycounts.com a domain name that closed at GoDaddy for $2,601 and then expired because of non paying winner and DropCatch pocketed $3,150. Over the last week I found a couple other names, that followed the same path. OUTTHEREINTERIORS.COM closed at $5,250 on GoDaddy auctions, non paying bidder and DropCatch got $601 for it when it dropped. SafeServices.com … [Read more...]
GoDaddy’s loss is DropCatch’s gain on EveryDayCounts.com
Well this is a weird one, back in May I wrote about everydaycounts.com closing at auction on GoDaddy for $2,601. The domain name was at Tucows not GoDaddy. I would imagine the winner did not pay and the domain was left to expire. So now DropCatch gets the windfall. It's a little higher this time around as the auction closed at $3,150. History on the name Every.Day.Counts was a fashion … [Read more...]
