SelfieSticks.com sells for 71% less than it did January 2015

February 1, 2019 by Raymond Hackney

Back in 2015 SelfieSticks.com sold on NameJet for $29,100 and today it closed at $8,200. The seller took a 71% loss on the domain name. The domain was held for just over 4 years.

But now let’s look at the timing of the purchase and the trend or fad that is the selfie stick.

The domain name was won at auction on NameJet in January of 2015. The term selfie sticks started to gather steam in terms of popularity according to Google Trends. Over the last 4 years the story has changed.

It’s one of the tricky things with buying a product name that quickly becomes a fad. When it goes out of style the value of the domain name follows suit.

This is a great lesson in keeping an eye on trends. Sure, “Selfie sticks” will always be a popular thing, and you can definitely run a business on the domain, but the novelty has worn off so now they’re just a normal part of everyday life.

    Regrets I had a few…

Well I’m sure the seller turned down many many offers over $8000 after his Namejet purchase.

Sticking firm to his 6 figures greedy delusion… telling those who made offers that they did no know the true value of his selfiestick and to politely fook off.

All the while encourage on by other greedy delusional domainers also sticking firm to their unrealistic prices expectations.

1000’s of great names and time and place sensitive names sitting idol and rotting on the vine in the domain world.

Oh well… Boo Hoo for you.

Weddings are not know for jewelery, you don’t need specific jewelry for the wedding. Hence it is not a good name.

They should have built it out and made bank, then sold the business.
