I asked Ray Fassett of Medistry for an update on .med.
Ray explained that .med is still in the midst of its pre-registration window, with registrars processing these. Some are using EPP, some are using web portal. This process will continue for another week.
Pre-registrations in .med were accepted by Medistry all summer long, free of charge, and registrars were encouraged to take advantage of this. Many of them did.
When Medistry received a pre-registration, they assigned a token to it inside the registry system. Only the registrar with the token could complete the registration. Medistry recorded over 40,000 – but this had a registration deadline that is now fast approaching.
Medistry is currently working with registrars who expressed interest in .med domains but were not first to pre-register it. Once this process is complete, Medistry will lift all tokens, effectively making available many thousands of .med domains to all .med registrars, not just the registrar with the token. This will be a big release of thousands of high quality .med domains with the date for this now set for Tuesday, September 30th (at about 14:00 UTC).
Ray added that registrars have been fantastic, helping Medistry to reach its target market audience and supporting its messaging. Registrations to date reflect this. Many registrars have expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming big release of .med domains.
High profile names expected to come available include: Cardiology.med, Metro.med, Sports.med, Tech.med, Cloud.med, Oncology.med, ER.med, Get.med, Link.med, Eyecare.med, Digital.med, ID.med, Live.med, MRI.med, Radiology.med, Sleep.med – and thousands of others.
