Price on TrumpTV.com gets a big reduction

June 17, 2017 by Raymond Hackney

TrumpTV.com is on auction at Ebay with a buy it now price of $450,000.

Back in October of 2016 we did an article on TrumpTV.com and the owner wanted $3 million. Even with the price reduction it seems like an unrealistic price. In my opinion the Trump organization could have interest in acquiring but not at that price.

From the story last October:

TheWrap.com has an exclusive interview with the owner of the domain name TrumpTv.com; Hollywood entrepreneur Fernando Escovar.

Mr. Escovar told TheWrap that he bought the domain name back in 2004, and “totally forgot I owned it; Then, all of a sudden, traffic began to go crazy and I realized what was going on.”

“We’ve seen our traffic go from about 150,000 people to 1.3 million in just the last couple of weeks”

Escovar, owns several entertainment sites including FabTV.com, also has a few card-game websites.

“Trump is a term used in Bridge,” Escovar said. “I wasn’t even thinking of Donald Trump.”

Mr. Escovar went on to say “I’ve sold a bunch of domains over the years and so I know how much they’re worth” and this one is priced at $3 million.

Now in the latest press release:

Hollywood entrepreneur Fernando Escovar announced today that he is finally placing his domain TrumpTV.com up for sale.

Ironically, Escovar’s initial interest in the URL had nothing to do with the celebrity reality show host now turned President. “Trump is a term used in Bridge,” Escovar said. “I wasn’t even thinking of Donald Trump back in 2004 when I initially acquired the domain.”

Escovar, who owns and manages several entertainment sites, including FabTV.com, also has a few card-game websites. “I totally forgot I owned it,” said Escovar, “Then, suddenly, things began to go crazy.”

Escovar, who has met the GOP nominee several times during red carpet events, has not yet heard directly from Trump’s camp, but if any interest, he would be happy to have a conversation.

“I’ve sold a bunch of domains over the years and so I know how much they’re worth,” he said.

Maybe he needs to see DrTrump.com for some reality medications.

Lol, this domain would get taken in UDRP in about 30 seconds. His registration story wouldn’t hold up, particularly because The Apprentice “coincidentally” happened to premier on 1/8/2004, the exact same day he registered the domain… Plus, his portfolio has a number of other similarly questionable urls. That’s not going to help him.

This domain has zero value, and there’s no way that it is really getting the kind of traffic he claims. Buyer beware because this should be a layup for any competent IP attorney. The only saving grace that could prevent it from being taken, is if it went to a three panel decision and two of the three were based outside of the US. There is a higher probability of Trump’s greater unpopularity (recently) creating a bias that could benefit the domain owner, but that’s taking a major leap imo.

I speak from personal experience when I say that the domain is worth nothing but headaches for the owner. Several years ago I thought I would get Trump’s attention by registering several trump related gaming sites, plus others, thinking I might be able to do some sort of venture with him or the Trump organization…wrong! All I received were threats of lawsuits from his top attorney. The Trump organization defends the Trump Brand with a vengeance. I was very lucky that I was able to resolve the issue I had by just transferring the domains to the Trump organization. They may be waiting for a sale to be made, then they will really get serious, and the seller should expect a lawsuit for financial damages.

I’m aware of 4,000+ Trump lawsuits and roughly 3 dozen UDRPs. Can anybody point to a domain *purchase* by the Trump organization? Domainers are barking up the wrong tree here, methinks.
