One Week Before The Super Bowl; Wow Check Out What’s On Houston.com

January 29, 2017 by Michael Berkens

Super Bowl 51 is being played in Houston Texas a week from today and just went to Houston.com to see what was going on in town around the game and found a pretty big surprise:

So the biggest sporting event in the country is coming next week with all the tourism, concerts, parties that comes long with the Super Bowl and Houston.com has just “Coming Soon” up?

According to Screenshots.com the “coming Soon” page has been up since November 2015.

Well its too late to be soon and someone is losing out on an opportunity of a lifetime.

The next 5 Superbowl locations have already been announced so who knows how long it will be until Houston gets another shot (the last time the Super Bowl was played in Houston was 2004)

The domain name has an Alexa traffic rank of 10 Million worldwide which is sure to go up this week.

Estibot values the domain name Houston.com at $1.120,000.

Shame its going to waste.

Let me play devils advocate here a moment…
How many people will be booking hotels or looking for attractions other than the SB in Houston that weekend?
How many of those people will likely first type in Houston.com?

My thoughts, very little if any real business boost will come from this weekend for a site even offering packages etc. In fact I would be willing to guess a quality build to cater to that weeks traffic would cost as much as the it made.

You do not dev a geo site for a decent weekend…are they missing making a few bucks, for sure but likely not enough to get out of bed for.

If the city was unable to scrape up the money to buy the name at this point, you would think they would have been smart enough to at least lease it during a major event like the Super Bowl, geesh! Someone at city headquarters needs a major lesson is proper marketing, to say the least!
