Quick Poll: How Much Will 3D.com Sell For?

April 9, 2011 by Michael Berkens

With the news yesterday that the domain name 3D.com is up for sale and being brokered by Sedo, the question now becomes how much will it sell for?

3D Domains certainly have a lot of interest inside the domain community as our post on the subject of July of 2010 has generated over 2,500 comments.Β  While many of the comments are just people talking about 3D domains they registered there are also links to literally hundreds of stories written about new 3D products and the future of 3D so if you have interest in the subject you should check it out.

Of course 3D.com was one of the domains we mentioned as being one of the best possible 3D domains.

Back in July this is what we wrote about the domain:

“Lets start with the 5 star domain for the topic,Β  3D.com.

Its owned under privacy at Network Solutions.

The domain name was created all the way back in 1994.

The domain goes to a Net Sol, parked page so whoever owns it, isn’t making any money off of it, and it does get thousands of visitors a month according to Compete and Alexa.

A Waste.”

Now the domain goes to a site which is a sales pitch for the domain.

Back to the question at hand.

How much will this domain sell for?

After requesting a price from my Sedo rep I was told there is no BIN price but they seller is just taking offers.

I gave you plenty of choices, from under $100K all the way up to over $5 Million, so the choice is yours

apparently the 3D.com and 3D.TV domains aren’t yet on sale on SEDO

anyhow, I hope that both domains will be sold at very very very high prices!

    $5M, $10M, $15M or more!

apart this specific sale, I do believe that everything runs around the 3D market may sell very well, also the 3D related domains, of course

3D.com is for sale on Sedo, 3D.tv is not

3D.com is not an auction its being brokered.

Personally, I think 3d.tv even though not as good as 3d.com, has more upside potential for a better ROI and that is why we are in this business for ROI.

With that being said, I think 3d.com will sell for between $300,000-$500,000.

I don’t follow the technology here but is something better or on the horizon that will be replacing 3d in the future. If so, I would stay away from the name personally.

    @Jim

since you don’t follow the 3D technology, please don’t vote in the poll πŸ™‚

    3D.com is a $3 million+ digital asset.

The ultimate category killer in an increasingly popular vertical.

3D domain asset investors should turn to comparable HD sales to ascertain valuations for their 3D domain assets. (keep in mind HD is written a few ways, HighDef, High Definition, HD, HiDef)

    What is HD.com worth?

What did HDNet Founder, Mark Cuban pay for HD.net?

    @Anthony,

Are you the same guy who said, I should not get into domain in 1997 because I knew nothing about it:-) (lol) I might not know 3D but I have done real well in this industry. Good luck, hopefully it sells for $10 Million!

  13. MQJ says

Looking at the current market, i think it should go somewhere $500000 to $1.5 million……
Maybe a little more or less……..:-)

  14. 3DSmartphone.com says

    2 million

  15. Alex A says

I think it will easily go over a million, since the companies who would have an interest in a name like this, have the money and will be kicking themselves if the competition gets it. Probably be a lot of bidding up on the price.

Get Sony to the auction and it goes for over $5MM. Drop in the bucket for Sony and ideal place to show all their 3D trailers for upcoming movies.

Great domain, i’d guess he’s wanting somewhere over the 2 million mark or they won’t let it go…but who really knows until it sells πŸ™‚

“Get Sony to the auction and it goes for over $5MM. Drop in the bucket for Sony and ideal place to show all their 3D trailers for upcoming movies.”

If they were interested in aquiring the generic chances are they’d probably already have seen the value in owning Sony3d. c** which is for sale at sedo πŸ˜‰

    Big corps…snzzzz

My guess would be between 1-2 mil…All businesses are finally realizing the importance of have the right domain…Especially, big businesses…Good luck with the sale, I hope it sells as I own 3dComputerApps.com and 3dAdAgencies.com…

  23. Slate says

3D.com is probably one of the strongest names to come up in a while.
The reason why I say that is because it covers *ALL* of 3D not just a segment with domains like 3DTV , 3DPRINTER, or 3DPC.
Those names are indeed premium names, but they only cover a small aspect of the world of 3D.
3DTV can pretty much cover all aspects of TVs but it can not comfortably cover the medical side or the computers side. The same with the other domains.

So in my opinion, seeing the huge future trend that 3D brings to the table, I would speculate that 3D.COM would bring well over 1million to the table and that will be a bargain for whoever the potential buyer is.

    Just my thoughts.
    Cheers

@ MHB? May we have some resolution over this?

How about an end-of-year post with resolution over some of the questions asked in your blogposts throughout the year, including polls over auction sales?

It would be GREAT to have a recap! You could just review which titles have question marks, and do the research from there . . .

it doesn’t seem to matter so much about the domain name as people seach the company name in google. it depends on how the seach is ranked in google. many companies seem to try to be original with domain names now so people like sitting on domain names are like chickens sitting on eggs that might not hatch πŸ™‚
