.MX Registry Hits 400,000 Domains Registered

NIC Mexico the company responsible of the administration of the .MX ccTLD, announced today that has reached 400,000 domain name registrations under .MX (including in this number all the current classifications .com.mx, .net.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx, .gob.mx and .mx).

“Today, NIC Mexico has reached more than 400,000 domain names registrations” commented Oscar Robles, NIC Mexico ‘s CEO.

It is interesting to note that out of the 400K+ .Mx domains registered almost 75% of them are .com.mx which has 292K registrations while .mx only has 81K.

    I think they would have more .mx regs if the reg fee was $8.99 instead of $49.99

    I’d like to see the reg fee drop, .mx has good potential being a country beside the US, a popular tourist destination, and a large spanish speaking population with lots of room for internet growth.

    Sure any extension would have more registrations if the price was 1/5 of the current price but then the registry would need 5x more registrations just to generate the same gross, but of course they would have more costs to support all the additional customers and registrations.

    it seems only a poor way to have the (unavailable) freeware.com or business.com or office.com etc. adding an .mx at their ends
