Shopify

Last week Sedo broker Yiming Yang brokered the domain name Shop.app for $200,000. At the time the domain was in transfer and now the whois has been updated.

The buyer is Shopify and the domain name has moved to MarkMonitor Inc.

Shopify also owns the domain name Shopapp.com as well. That name was registered way back in 1999.

Shopapp.com was on an Efty landing page to around June of 2019. The reports of that sale are not public. Interesting the disparity on value between GoDaddy at $7,369 and Estibot $643.

Neither website resolves.

I’m wondering, with the present situation, if the value of my domain RN.app has increased.

Don’t pay the renewal on it, that is my advice. People would have lost a combined tens of millions on .app for every million in aftermarket sales.

If you are gonna use a New Gtld you really do need the .com which they have secured, great business strategy!

LOL oh, now you NEED the matching .com with the nTLD…funny how the narrative changes to suit whatever propaganda com’rs require given the current market, in order to keep the facade of ‘needing’ a .com! You don’t NEED the .com 🙂 Last year the random trolls said nTLD were going nowhere and .com is all that mattered!

“shopify just threw away 200k and all they NEED was shopapp.com while shop.app is COMPLETELY irreverent” – where are the typical troll marching to THIS tune TODAY?

Yup, adjust the narrtive to suit your agenda and bias. It’s happening in front of our eyes folks. The Trolls have new usernames and a new marching tune.

LOL. soon nTLD will be MORE WIDESPREAD then .com! Soon domains like SHOPAPP.COM will LEAK traffic to shop.app. IMAGINE THAT, the tables are turning, and the propaganda is changing to suit their delusions!

Watch .com turn even more irrelevant as more nTLD websites come. Ever notice how they are SUPERIOR looking / functioning sites? THATS because the SERIOUS developers are making them like there’s no tomorrow! They know where the traffic is! What gets the clicks..it’s not .com people! nTLD get more traffic, bet me!

NEEDING the .com “too” Perhaps it’s nice, but you don’t need, and you never will. Soon, soon, the tables will be completely turned. The .coms are going to get outdone by EMD nTLD.

        Like Atlas, .com shrugged.

Does this mean they would need to also own Shop.com?

Shop.com belongs to Market America. I dont think they can afford shop.com.

I think you are missing the point of what Shopify is. They don’t need shoppers, they give you app so you go and find shoppers. They are middle man, not one that’s looking for shoppers.

Exactly, they have a brand, they are aiming for clearer platform strategy. As much as dot com is widely known, .app is even so know as keyword. App is universal keyword in most of the languages. People and robots (automation) associate the shop.app as platform. People who see .com as the only option are stuck 90s / 2000s technology. The time of distributed platforms and data streams is just emerging. For these purposes .app works well.
