XFL reveals team names

August 21, 2019 by Raymond Hackney

The XFL announced the names of the 8 teams that will play in the new league. The XFL will start play in 2020.

The team names are as follows:

  • Dallas Renegades.
  • Houston Roughnecks.
  • Los Angeles Wildcats.
  • New York Guardians.
  • Seattle Dragons.
  • St. Louis BattleHawks.
  • Tampa Bay Vipers.
  • D.C. Defenders.

All of the full names, city plus nickname were registered in .com some on August 15 at Mark Monitor. As a commenter pointed out not all of them were with someone registering LosAngelesWildcats.com today. All of the team nicknames without the city prefix were all registered years ago. The NFL has many teams that do not own the nickname of their team, while some do, for instance the NFL owns Chiefs.com but not Jets.com.

SB Nation dubbed the XFL names so bad, they’re good.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that not all of these city+team names were registered on Aug 15th at Mark Monitor.

No the first three I checked were and looks like they dropped the ball on the LosAngelesWildcats (they regged LAWILDCATS.com) others were regged before the XFL reboot was announced so they might get a nice sale.

XFL will fail again. I will not be watching.

You’ll watch. Even if it’s for five minutes.

What will the D.C. Defenders be called when they are on offense? They probably should have gotten D.C. Offenders as well, but I think the U.S. Congress already has that one 🙂

I think a new league is exciting, NFL needs a bit of a shakeup.
