Over 50% polled would not pay more than $999 for a domain name

July 25, 2019 by Raymond Hackney

So I started a poll a few weeks ago on Namepros which closed yesterday. The question posed was the following:

What’s the most you’d pay for a domain in the aftermarket?

Over 53% would not pay higher than $999 with 16.7% saying they only hand reg.

  1. Nothing; I only hand reg 104 vote(s) 16.7%
  2. $100 73 vote(s) 11.8%
  3. $101 to $499 78 vote(s) 12.6%
  4. $500 to $999 75 vote(s) 12.1%
  5. $1,000 39 vote(s) 6.3%
  6. $2,000 36 vote(s) 5.8%

    Silly if you ask me.

Sex.com for $ 125K. Every person in this poll would find the money to purchase it today.

I spent it all on a Mercedes Benz, because the Lord won’t buy me one.

I have a hard time believing $999 is some hard cutoff point. It really depends on the quality of the domain.

Who is going to draw the line there if they can find a six or seven figure domain at a major bargain?
Most people will find the resources in that situation.

If you are not willing to go higher, for the right opportunity, then you are really limiting yourself.

Brad you must be joking, how many np members you think could find $100,000 to save their life let alone buy a domain name? Everybody has access to $100,000? No way. that’s just dreaming man.

A six or seven figure domain at a major bargain aka a domain worth six or seven figures for much less.
Not a six or seven figure cost.

According to 53% of people they would not spend more than $999 for any domain….

A domain worth 100k for $2,500. Oh sorry, I never pay over $999. That is silly when you close off the option completely to spend more, regardless of the quality.

Well I did not read it that way for fantasy, I hope Raymond chimes in to explain if that was the plan. I read it as how much would you pay for a domain for investment purposes. I mean your example is a great fantasy $100,000 domain for $2,500 that’s happening when? I guess I can start a poll on Facebook asking would you go to Hogwarts if you could. To the people who reply that isn’t real I will just tell them they are closed minded.

    How many namepros members have ever spent 2500 on a name ? 10 – 20 percent ?

Probably less. There is a reason there is so much garbage on there.

Why do you always have to remind us you’re Brad? We already can see that in the headline, we can see that on your profile badge on NP. Why wasting screen space? We all know you’re Brad alright!

I believe this poll is very accurate in 2019. Nowadays most domainers are spending under $999 for domains because there is less opportunity.

Back in the early 2000’s or earlier domainers spent much more for domains because there much more bargains and opportunities unlike today.

Nah, it has always been that way, most have very little to spend because they are losing money or not making much.

In the early 2000s there was not much money floating around and prices were much lower. 3 letter .com’s for $200 and one word .com’s often a couple of thousand. Anything into mid 5 figures was a major talking point.

      Compare,

      3. Native.com $10,500 Sedo
      4. KS.com $10,000

I saw the poll, but I didn’t vote because it really depends on the quality of the domain. The higher the quality, the more I would be willing to pay.

Who cares what domainers pay for domain name?

Assessing what domainers pay for domain names is like giving credence to Godaddy or Estibot appraisals.

Who cares what Estibot appraises names for?

Namepros is an immense waste of time!

    Domainers selling to domainers?

    huh?

YiYao pinyin = medical – medicine – prescription Baidu search results 100,000,000 Estibot NamePros the blind leading cannon fodder, make “America great again” same BS

np is all about domainers. so DOMAINERS are THE BUYERS not END USERS! Domainers are notorious for being very cheap so this poll only reflects the domainer biuyer industry!

Bad poll question. If you poll how many people are willing to pay for decor for their home, majority of the people won’t even pay $200 for a framed art. But art auctions are thriving. Just because majority of people don’t have the budget, that does not mean there is no market.

Also if you poll people for much they are willing to pay to developing websites, majority of people will say $500.

Interesting results, the poll does illustrate psychological barrier of the thousand dollar mark. This reinforces the idea of using charm pricing when listing domains for sale.
