The good, the bad and the ugly – NameSilo – 2019 Edition

May 18, 2019 by Raymond Hackney

Back in 2016 we started a series here that looked at the best and worst about companies in the domain industry. Over the last 30 months a lot has changed at many companies so we are revisiting the good, the bad and the ugly.

Each post will deal with just one company, readers are encouraged to share their positive and negative experiences. Suggestions for improvement are also encouraged.

One of the goals of the column is that company representatives will see how their customers think of them. This can lead to a conversation on fixing problems.

What is not allowed:

  • Personal attacks on individuals at the chosen company
  • Promoting a competitor
  • Posting domains for sale

The company in the spotlight today is NameSilo
Founded: 2009

Respect for trying but I just don’t care for this registrar. Slow to load bulk actions. Functionality related to CCTlds is lacking . Best thing about them is that they are not Godaddy. Not a viable real full service register IMO – they get my vote as a reseller

I agree with you on one thing ,do not try to bulk transfer anything major it can take days,I once had to call them and ask what’s going on,they fixed it fast,I think the site became so popular that the volume they have is too big for what they have, otherwise this is a great company, Ps godaddy has a lot of f up glitches too.

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently working to add support for CC TLDs, which should hopefully be ready later this year. As far as slow bulk actions or bulk transfer limitations, can you please provide us with a bit more clarity on what we’d like to see. Our product team will be reading these comments carefully so the more detail you can provide, the better.

Customer service is very bad comparing to other registrars.
I do not feel even they are polite.
    Chat almost never works.
Good is only price of registration for some extensions.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that our customer support has not up to par for you. We’d really appreciate if you could share specific examples/details with us at support@namesilo.com so we can investigate further. One of most important company goals is to continuously improve the breadth and quality of our customer support.

As far as chat support, we changed our live chat system several months ago to be able to offer 24/7 support. To reach us on chat, please go here: https://www.namesilo.com/Support and click on the green chat icon on the bottom right.

Selling a name in the NameSilo.com “MarketPlace” is possible only if that name is registered with NameSilo.com

    Rubs me the wrong way.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s not a special trick or ploy but our Marketplace is built on top of our registrar system so requires the domain name to be registered with us to be listed in our marketplace. We also do support cross-registrar marketplaces like Sedo and Afternic if you wish to list your domains there instead.
