Duck Duck Go founder asks Google to sell them Duck.com

July 21, 2018 by Raymond Hackney

So there was an interesting article on CNET today about Duck.com. Google acquired the domain back in 2010 when they acquired ON2.

But there is confusion, most people when they hear duck and search think of Duck Duck Go. When people typed in Duck.com they went to Google.com. Duck Duck Go did not like that.

So Google decided to make some changes and provide a link to their rival search engine, along with a link to Wikipedia.

All this conversation took place on Twitter and eventually the CEO and founder of Duck Duck Go asked Google to sell them Duck.com.

Thank you! That will clear up the consumer confusion.

Would you please consider selling the domain to us?

Duck Duck Go should purchase my start-up idea. It’s relevant to search engines. The front end was easy to design, the back end is a b.i.t.c. shut my mouth!

This really makes sense if duck duck go is willing to purchase Duck.com .. they will surely get a lot of benefit as its a short domain.

Good luck with that duck duck go. Success brings stress. Be prepared to give up equity.

    Those darn “squatters”

Sounds like a prescription for a private terms deal that ruins what is currently pretty much the only search engine people ever mention as a rival to the big goog monopoly.

Duck Duck Go should buy my domain: VRDucks.com Its way better than duck.com and Google wont sell to them the domain name, so its time to look up for other Valuable domains with a plus like VR (virtual reality). Iam asking only High 6 Figures for the name 😀

Why would Google ever do it…. That’s like opening front door to your competition. What if in 5 years Duck.com becomes a giant and not nuicance it is now. Selling Duck name would be very bad decision on Google part. Maybe reason they bought that company in first place was because of duck name… Bottom line Google not stupid, and they will never sell. They don’t need money, unless they get part of ownership which would basx

I was going to say “Duck Duck Goose” may be a great alternative even though its longer, but looking at their name I kinda think they played on that phrase. Ironically DuckDuckGoose.com is a blank page with a custom Google search engine at the top. Interesting.

How about they acquire the gTLD .duck and change their URL/name to Go.Duck.
A few possible advantages of doing this?… Take a total different approach than Google
and in so doing benefit from the PR .. become a domain friendly search engine empowering
people rather than Google! … Make Duck.com a domain that only a duck hunter or duck call maker
would want. Sell .duck domains! Thoughts? Quacks?
