Purple.com sold for $900,000

March 17, 2018 by Raymond Hackney 11 Comments

George Kirikos who sought retweets as currency for his research efforts, set up a series of clues on a domain that sold last year that would chart in the top 10 for 2017 domain sales.

The domain is Purple.com, I was really the only one playing along with George, and discovered the mattress firm merged with Global Partner Acquisition Corp.

The details lie in the Edgar filings

Purple.com

GPAC And Purple Innovation, LLC Complete Business Combination

Combined company renamed Purple Innovation, Inc. and will trade on NASDAQ under “PRPL”

GPAC put out a release in February:

ALPINE, Utah and NEW YORK, Feb. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Global Partner Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: GPAC; GPACW; GPACU), a special purpose acquisition company (“GPAC” or the “Company”), and Purple Innovation, LLC (“Purple”), a comfort technology company known for creating the “World’s First No Pressureβ„’ Mattress,” announced today that they have completed their business combination, pursuant to which Purple has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. The transaction was approved at a special meeting of the Company’s stockholders held on February 2, 2018. Under the terms of the merger agreement entered into by the Company, Purple and other parties (the “Merger Agreement”), GPAC has changed its corporate name to Purple Innovation, Inc. The Company’s common stock and warrants are expected to be listed on NASDAQ beginning on February 5, 2018 under the symbols “PRPL” and “PRPLW.”

Elliot Silver initially broke the news on Purple.com and then I added it to Wikipedia as he was looking for someone to update the page.

Thanks for sharing this. I thought the buyer might have been purple bricks. Great acquisition.

For such a memorable one-word dot-com, I think the buyer got quite a bargain.

You just strike me as someone who is less stuck inside the distorted box than many have apparently been stuffed into by various influences and “PTB,” unless I’m mistaken. πŸ™‚

never understood the value of a color domain. it seems I am alone… $900k for purple.com is totally crazy price to me, unless the buyer is a company named purple and even then it is not easy to get someone to let go such an amount. Seller seems to have made a good due diligence about the buyer.
