Domain names centered around Boycotting the NFL have been registered for years

September 24, 2017 by Raymond Hackney 5 Comments

Things went up another notch today around the NFL, with recent comments from President Trump at a rally on Friday, Roger Goodell responding, NFL owners giving their two cents, some teams did not take the field for the national anthem.

There are calls for boycotts everywhere on social media, @NFL tweeted out the following video, they plan to play this video tonight during the Raiders – Redskins game. The comments back and forth made me feel like I was reading a new gtld vs .com debate on Namepros.

I started looking at who owns boycott NFL names,

BoycottNFL.com is parked at Sedo, was dropped 4 times before and is under privacy. The previous registrant might have cancelled the registration with months left to expiration at GoDaddy. Someone picked it up last year at Enom.

BoycottNFL.org has been owned by a Nevada resident who has not hidden their identity. Registered in 2009, there is just a GoDaddy holding page.

BoycottTheNFL.com actually does have a statement, the owner has been calling for a boycott of the NFL since 2008, but not for racial inequality or taking a knee.

After the domain dropped twice Nicolas Leobold put up a site in 2008, calling for a boycott of the NFL. Mr. Leobold wants concerned citizens to boycott the NFL for the following:

BOYCOTT the NFL is a campaign to lobby the National Football League to cease its support for the un-American and un-Ethical policies of gun control, the War on Drugs, the expanding Police State and police authoritarianism, and current U.S. government foreign interventionism and illegal/immoral wars furthered through the NFL’s support and promotion of the U.S. military and displays of jingoistic sports “patriotism”.

You can read everything here

Currently BoycottNFL.football and BoycottTheNfl.football are available for registration for $4.99 at Name.com.

I did look at individual teams as well, I think as some teams make stronger stands there could be a greater backlash. I expected BoycottRedskins.com to be registered due to all the backlash against the name Redskins, it was registered for years but dropped after being regged in 2009.

BoycottSeahawks.com was registered a year ago and renewed a couple weeks ago. No site, under privacy currently.

Not at all, unless the registrant is using the domain unappropriately the tm holders likely won’t succeed with a UDRP.

Exactly nothing easy about those UDRP’s, You are allowed to own domains calling for a boycott. Same way you can use a domain adding sucks. NFL would have got the UDRP years ago.

Costs a few grand to try, pennies for them, worse calls have been made on and off the field

boycottfootball.com seems like the best one to me b/c it doesn’t have the trademark in there.
