Google cracking down on rehab related ads

September 15, 2017 by Raymond Hackney

Google is cracking down on those advertising rehab centers, Google is actually doing something here that will hit their bottom line. These clicks are usually big bucks, Google is foregoing a decent chunk of cash by not allowing these ads on their search engine.

The Verge broke the news on the disappearance of these “rehab” ads. They had previously written an article about shady rehab centers using Google to advertise.

From the article:

Around the country today, marketers in the $35 billion addiction treatment industry woke up to an unpleasant surprise: Many of their Google search ads were gone. Overnight, the search giant has stopped selling ads against a huge number of rehab-related search terms, including “rehab near me,” “alcohol treatment,” and thousands of others. Search ads on some of those keywords would previously have netted Google hundreds of dollars per click.

    Google is pushing their luck.

In every industry there are bad people. Is Google now our moral compass for search ads?

What a bunch of sh*t from Google.

Rehab related ad’s whether thru copy/paste mini-BS site or actual real true helpful sites should never be deleted because of a few bad apples. I sold Rehab.tv for only 10k a few years back. I often thought that domain name was worth 10x that amount because the cpc was always over $10.00+ plus the added fact that you could maybe help someone in a real positive way.
That term is one of the most important terms in the mental health/healthcare Industry. I really hate seeing the big G taking anything that can be remotely helpful away from people who could actually benefit from it.
This makes me happy I didn’t spend thousands on developing that domain, just to have Google take away any potential income from ad’s. Pretty shitty for anyone who truly poured their heart and soul and money into a real helpful rehab related site.
