MSNBC Hand Registers The Domain Name Greta.TV, As Greta Van Susteren 1st Show It Set For Monday

January 8, 2017 by Michael Berkens

The domain name Greta.tv was hand registered by NBCUniversal Media, LLC the parent company of MSNBC.

Last week MSNBC announced that Greta Van Susteren,  the former Fox News host would being a nightly show starting on Monday January 9th.

The previous owner of the domain name a Andrea Santamaria of Great Britain registered the domain name in May 2015 after the former owner allowed it to drop but Ms. Santamaria dropped the domain name in May 2016.

NBCUniversal Media hand registered the domain name on January 5th the same day the announced the show.

Greta is now in the same position regarding the domain name that she will be using for her new show as her last show.

When she was on Fox News the domain name she used for the show was GretaWire.com, but Fox owned the domain name not Greta,  and as soon as Greta announced she was leaving the network Fox took the domain down.

Now once again Greta will be using a domain name owed by the network not by her.

Since the domain name Greta.tv was unregistered for more than 6 months it would have been a good idea for her to register the domain as at some point she knew she wanted to get back on TV.

The lesson here is for domainers if you think you have a good marketable domain name you need to be patient.

You can’t expect to buy or register a domain expecting it to sell within a year.

You have to expect to hold a domain name for at least several years before selling it.

For end users don’t let someone else control your destiny register the domain yourself, especially when its available.

What an excellent domain, Greta.TV. A perfect fit. Ditto the buy & hold comment.

You know millions will be naturally typing greta.tv once she is on air again LOL Its ok but easily forgettable for several reasons. Firstly spelling, not a dot com and not a popular extension anyone would think of when thinking of Gretta or Greta or Greda or ????

You make a lot of sense..so I registered Gretta.TV. You can register Greda.tv

The fact that Greta.tv was unregistered for six months shows how much opportunity still exists in the domain business. We sold Natalie.tv (to Natalie MacNeil of SheTakesOnTheWorld.com) and Nathan.tv and get a fair number of inquiries on other first-name .tv domains. Adele was using Adele.tv until she acquired Adele.com.

When the technology is 100%, a domain name will be more valuable than a TV-station license. With a domain name viewers can switch between live video, archived video and printed content, while simultaneously chatting with other viewers. Viewers will regularly switch between TV stations and domain names on their big-screen home TVs and eventually TV stations may disappear.

Thanks very much Michael for this solid advise, that was the way i lost Tonga.TV and others because i was not patient enough. Special.TV too would have gone the same way if not for that i decided to have little more patient like you said.

Now i have hope to hold on for more years for my domains if the right buyer dont show up now.

    Thanks.
