The Owner Of Rams.com Is Adam Dicker: Does He Want $1.8 Million or $650,000?

January 14, 2016 by Michael Berkens

According to an article appearing in 4029tv.com, Adam Dicker says he is the owner of Rams.com and he wants a minimum of  $650,000 for the domain although the domain name Rams.com is up for sale with a Buy It Now (BIN) price of $1.8 Million dollars on Afternic.com.

According to Estibot.com Rams.com has a value of $119,000 and according to a screenshot it appears the domain was recently for sale for $650,000 but the price seems to have gone up:

Here is some interesting quotes from the 4029tv.com story:

“$650,000 is the minimum asking price,” said Adam Dicker, owner of the Web design company Digital Asset Management in Toronto.

I tried contacting the listed registrant for Rams.com on Wednesday. But according to the ICANN domain name registry, Rams.com was registered to a business with an address in England and phone number in Germany.

Nobody answered when I rang that number. Dicker explained that this was because he registered for the domain name privately, something you can do by paying a little extra.

Why did he want to remain anonymous?

“I get a lot of stupid inquires from people who want to buy domains for $500 or $1,000. So sometimes it’s easier to remain private,” he said.

That changed now that Rams.com could be a valuable commodity. Dicker changed the registration on ICANN Thursday to show his name, Toronto address and phone number as the registrant.

Dicker first registered the Rams.com site in 1995.

It has nothing to do with football — even though Dicker says he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan. (Canada’s team as well as America’s team? That makes this New York Giants fan feel nauseous.)

Dicker’s site is a place where people can go to find out facts about the mammals with the big curly horns.

“I’m big into animals. I watch a lot of Animal Planet,” Dicker said. He owns some other animal-themed sites as well, such as giraffes.com.

But Dicker is not just a fan of animals. He’s also an expert in domain name sales.

Dicker used to be a senior vice president with domain seller GoDaddy. He left in 2010 and was embroiled in a bit of a scandal at the company before that.

In 2008, he was accused of bidding against GoDaddy customers in auctions for expired domain names.

At the time, GoDaddy said that Dicker was not doing anything illegal. But the company wound up banning employees from future auctions in order to avoid conflicts of interest.

Dicker said he left GoDaddy on amicable terms. GoDaddy was not immediately available for comment to verify this.

But Dicker has remained a controversial figure in the domain name world. There are several industry blogs that have stories about employees and business partners accusing Dicker of deception and claiming that he owes them money.

“There is no credibility to these allegations,” Dicker said, adding that he has hired a lawyer to try and get some of the blog posts removed.

Still, it does make you wonder if the NFL’s Rams would want to negotiate with him given all these stories.””

After all, Dicker’s had the site for two decades and the NFL has yet to purchase it.

The league has gotten along just fine with stlouisrams.com as the official team site.

Plus, Dicker seems content to keep the site up as a tribute to the male sheep.

“I’m in no hurry,” Dicker said, adding that he last had contact with members of the Rams organization a few months ago. “If I sell it, I sell it.

Let’s hope Adam sells it and finally pays back all the money he owes us for this shoddy work or no work at all. It’s interesting that “he has hired a lawyer to try and get some of the blog posts removed” when he told everyone on NamePros that he hired a lawyer to help get aggrieved customers their money back. Just for the record, the former Sherpa’s we’re never close.

Other than Rick who was a good friend before Cyger asked us to be on the show (Of course Rick continues to be a good friend), I didn’t know Adam other than seeing him at shows, never did business with him, didn’t even know much about what he did in the space other than working for GD back in the day.

I don’t think I talked to Adam on the phone or exchanged emails just appeared on the show with him

I know Page slightly more but also don’t know him that well don’t talk to him other than saying hello at conferences.

    Cyger put us together.

That is my only “big” connection to them (other than Rick)

Regarding Adam I don’t know enough about his business or dealings to defend him or attack him.

    • ted says

      January 14, 2016 at 5:38 pm

Mike you are the “MAN” SO I BELIEVE YOUR story and hope this NAMES “CON”
STUFF blows over but you got to admit RICHARD could have bid the domain with a paddle paying a lot less and like you a insider paying 60k = the story hard to believe
BUT if you say so I take it as gospel!
did you let pontoonboats.com go 2 daddy?

  12. Michael Berkens says

    January 14, 2016 at 5:19 pm

    Ted

I agree Rick is the king for sure

My sale to Richard went down 1000% as it was written about. I bought the singular because I had the plural.

He missed the auction and then asked me how much to sell both domains.

I sold it cheap to Richard since he is a friend, otherwise my price was $100K.

I’m Sure Richard will make a lot of money with those two domains when Getty or someone like them buys them.

Ken O should have sneaked that one into the 4L deal. We could have called it Cheap chips and animals. Or creamed chipped Rams. Maybe Rams and Chips? Delicious with vinegar.

Adam talked about not having Whois privacy several times, so that’s weird.

  15. Michael Berkens says

    January 14, 2016 at 5:48 pm

    Ted

Like I said its not a story its what happened, Richard could have been in the room with a paddle but he wasn’t he was running a show. He tried to bid online on that domain said his wifi went out of the connection went down or maybe he was just busy and missed it.

I was in the room but bidding online too.

I thought I won too.sexy but then my I saw the screen and my bid didn’t get posted and i lost it.

Anyway once the dust clears you will see Richard will have both domains, I will have the cash.

If it makes you feel better I donated $10K to the Water School in support of my very good friend Larry Fischer who shaved his head, and wore a pretty silly Superman costume all night.

“Dicker first registered the Rams.com site in 1995”

This came across as Adam has owned the domain since 1995, but whois history shows plenty of other owners since at lease 2004 to current. Jon Green, Rams Home Loans Pty Ltd., Rick Latona, Matt Van Grinsven, Oliver Hoger and then Adam showing up on 5/5/2014 according to whois history records.

Also to note, from my understanding, Adam is a co-owner of the domain as I know George Verdugo is also a part owner in the domain.

It was up to Cyger to, as I said vet, the hosts and experts he put on.

Domainsherpa is dead, now he’s pushing esty or some other crap, a system that many companies already have in place. Sherpas that are their now are just there to promote their sites or products.
Cyger is good at questions but bad at venting guests and now he is paying, the show now sucks.
The show was good when it was Rick, Adam, Paige and Mike.
After that it jumped the shark. IMO

I find his show still very good and informative. Would be great to see Berkens again and i hope he brings you back. “Domain Sherpa is dead”
Because Cyger is involved in other projects? “Now he’s pushing etsy or some other crap” lol. It’s not his main business and he has multiple successful projects going on. That’s what successful people do.

I’m really confused at this whole unwarrented attack. Did they not pick your name to review? Are you guys saying that Cyger is responsible for retirements and Adam’s controversy?

Lol, You think that Schilling, Cultra and Rossner aren’t qualified domain Sherpas? Humor me and clarify this. Maybe give some examples of why he’s bad at “venting” guests

I loved the old Sherpa Reviews and the Sherpa Duscussions. All of today’s regular Sherpas made appearances from time to time in the past, they were already successfully “vented”

As the regulars move on with life, (or mentally and ethically implode) he adapts the line up as needed, that’s how life works.

Please give some fact based examples of your shit talking.

“The show was good when it was Rick, Adam, Paige and Mike”

What’s your point? I agree it was good then too. Two are retired, Paige is doing his own TV show and you think Adam should come back? Is that what you’re saying?

Domaining is not about how many domains you have, but how much legitimate money you are able to make out of the business. More so, Country Codes are major niche of domain business.
Don’t let us talk about his experience, no doubt about that; he is a well experienced domainers, however, he has many non .ca domain names to mention just few of them witchcraft.com, Newfoundland.com, SeaOwl.com, rams.com and many more as such.

The only problem he has is the atrocities committed which is very bad of him.
I am not making case for Adams he has committed a great offense which must be completely pay back or else he can no longer be reckoned with in this business.
I was choked when I had all the offenses and he has also confirmed it, the next thing is for him to amend..

    @Anon says,
No doubt about Adams experience, he is a great domainer and domaining is not about how many or types of domains you have , but how much you are able to make out of the business.
He has more .coms than .ca domains. He is the owner of Witchcraft.com, SeaOwl.com, Rams.com newfoundland.com and many more as such.
But the problem is the atrocities he committed, except when he make amendment people will no longer reckon with him again; even after the correction, he may not be trustworthy anymore and that is why they says beauty is in the characters.

Funny to see theblaze.com among the lists in that post, a rather famous site now. (Different John here of course, as I’m sure you know, but just making sure the readers do.) I like the title of that post, as in Estibot appraisals are WORTHLESS. “Appraisals” of any kind are the worst thing in the industry in my opinion, and are one of the reasons I abandoned the forums years ago. If they jettisoned all so-called “appraisal” sections then I might be willing to look at them again some day, otherwise I only like the blogs now and the news.
