So the final count for the number of registered domain names for January 1, 2016 is 123,963,640 according to Verisign.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, the number of .Com registrations were 115.6 million names.
So the number of .Com’s increased some 7 Million in 2015 or over 7%.
The question is how many .Com will be registered by next year, 1/1/17?
This year we all know we had a short period of time where millions of .Com’s that were previously unregistered got registered by people in China.
2015 was a very interesting year in the domain space.
Arguably unprecedented
Lets see what 2016 brings.
You can vote on the right in out poll for you pick on the number of .Com’s that will be registered a year from today, and for bragging rights put your picks in the comment box below
It will be in 100 Million.
Here a free domain tip for you all.
The next trend will be registering your phone number NNN-NNN-NNNN
and
your birthrate mmddyyyy or ddmmyyyy
mmddyy or ddmmyy
birthrate=birth date
apology–hangover..blame it on the MarijuanaGuy.
Phone numbers are already a thing
The phone numbers are a hard one, country codes, different lengths etc. I happy have a few 9N and 8N. Maybe one day we will all have a “life domain” that is used over a variety of media platforms?
I predict 132,788,420 .com domains will be registered by 1/1/17.
It will be over 130 million!
For all who register new Domains, don’t forget to backup with a .com ! Otherwise you are going to lose traffic!
Wish all a successful 2016!
Mike- I will go with 133 Million by 1/1/17 as the growth trend will continue! Happy and healthy New Year!
Cheers!
Mike
Wake up guys, they aren’t buying to lose money. They are buying to push the market to new limits. If people think there is more money to be made then yes, everyone will start to register phone number and birthdate domains.
Once the singularity starts to set in, and you actually see what is going on with robotics and A.I. it may be too late. People will realize very soon that most real estate or land is worthless. There is too much of it, it is not a rare asset. Even places like New York do not hold their same glory. It is more like an old haunted city, and San Fransisco now is the #1 city in the USA. The USA in general terms is not #1, so there is that issue to deal with.
America is set up to where the corporations are citizens and this makes the 99% of the USA population practically worthless. This is another reason why real estate in general is such a huge liability. The center of the world does not stand in one place, hot spots move around, people move around. Basically I am saying, owning real estate in the future will be a burden. People will not want to own such a thing, you will want to stay somewhere for a month or so and move on.
So, in the long term of things, you need to wake up and ask yourself is the world moving forward without me? Because if you are an American, the answer is yes, and you have horse blinders on maybe for the past 5 years and you need to wake up before the world eats you and your corporations leave you because when this country does fall further there will be no one to save it because the wealth will pack up and move out.
And I thought ZeroHedge.com was depressing.
🙁
It’s not depressing if you can start moving markets like China. But, right now everyones eye is on Asia. So I am just trying to help whoever in the west. Like if you can convince people that real estate is worthless, then you can easily persuade them to buy domain names because it is an ultra rare asset.
I am just saying that smart people should align with ultra rare assets, and the only people it will hurt are the people not paying attention. So if you want to read conspiracy theories all day be my guest.
Mike- I’m a little bit late but congratulations on your portfolio sale! I believe dot com’s will slow down in 2016. While more will probably change hands through sales, fewer will be hand registered. The gTLDs will be the star this year. The next dot com boom will take place in India, 2017-2020. We should all open an office in Mumbai.
1/1/2017 – 142,042,888 .com domains
It’s easy enough to compute. Simply add up the volume of legitimate gtlds sales (ie, not too many) and add them to the number of annual .com sales with some additional thrown in for added future growth. I predict that next year will see a 10-12 increase of .com since the vast majority of other options available are total garbage and no one wants them.
1/1/2017 – 140,500,000
I think the number of domains in 1/1/2017 :
127 milions co
There is going to be a boost in the domain market this year but I see the new gtld benefitting more and not the .com.
