The drug giant Merck just bought the domain name DogFlu.com.
The domain name was listed in Afternic.com with a Buy It Now price of $19,000.
The domain was owned by Frank Schilling’s Name Administration according to the whois as recently as May 2015, when it switched over to privacy in August.
The domain had an Estibot.com appraised value of $16,000.
There is an outbreak of Dog Flu in the United States which started getting reported on in June of this year.
The CDC has a website dedicated to the Dog Flu.
Like flu in humans there are various strains and Merck does have a vaccine , Nobivac® for Canine Flu H3N8 although the current outbreak, H3N2 does not seem to have a vaccine according to the CDC.
If you’re wondering about the domain name, for the formal name of the DogFlu; CanineFlu.com, Merck also just bought that domain a few weeks which owned under privacy at Godaddy.
Merck is represented by the brand protection comapny MarkMonitor.com

It will be interesting to see whether they develop the domain or simply park it as a defensive registration.
I think they will develop the name, no need to park the domain
Let’s hope that the purchase of this domain will boost the effort of fixing this dog flu epidemic.
