CSC Publishes July’s NewgTLD.Report: 3,945 New gTLD’s in Alexa Top 1 Million

July 14, 2015 by Michael Berkens

The brand protection company Corporate Service Company (CSC) published its bi-monthly New gTLD Utilization Report (newgtld.report) yesterday “with expanded metrics and analysis around dot brands”

In the July Report CSC saw a significant increase in .Brand new gTLD’s registrations.

There are now over 2,050 registrations under .Brand (and closed) top-level domains, up 55% since the May report”

According to the report, the number of new gTLDs in the Alexa Top 1 Million is 3,945 up 4% from the May report.

The new gtld.report also has an “Alternative Top 10 TLD’s List which includes a “New gTLD Indicator” ranking which is derived by a “simple ratio which compares the # of domains for the TLD in the Alexa 1M with the registration volume for the TLD. We then indexed the ratio against .com (assigned a score of 100), which currently is the most globally utilized TLD in order to assess a New gTLD’s relative penetration of the Alexa 1M”

The 10 new gTLD in the Alternative top 10 list are in order based on the highest New gTLD Indicator Ranking:

.Media

.Today

.Zone

.Sexy

.Social

.Website

.Pics

.Wiki

.Ninja

.Space

“In this period, 9 out of the Alternative Top 10 TLDs remained the same, .work moved down and.wiki  was the new entrant.
This makes it the third consecutive report that .media has held the #1 position in terms of penetrating the Alexa 1M when taking into account the TLD’s registration volume.

Since our last report, .wiki showed the greatest increase in its New gTLD Indicator score.

Factors such as TLD launch dates and the pace of registration volume changes will cause oscillations in rankings. For example,
.work was number six in the last report, but is now in 20.”

Could the CSC New gTLD Indicator signal the future global value of TLDs?

Only time will tell, but we are compelled to follow these developments because they may be an indicator of consumer perception and search engine treatment of New gTLDs.””

I am pleased to see the pick up in the dot BRANDS utilization of nTLDs and it validates one of my 2015 Domain Name Industry forecast points.

Alexa rank for those in the know can be rigged and is absolutely irrelevant – specifically in this nTLD use case.

Several blog comment(s) show how it continues to be perceived as a COM versus nTLD whenever a report or statistic is published on either subject- it simply is not. Get OVER IT!

years back i made it into the top 5000 alexa sutes by just putting in the toolbar and visiting my email 50 times a day. of course it is probably way much more sophisticated now that jeff bozo owns it.

CSC stand by their numbers they say there are hundreds of erroneous .dev domains included in some alexa searches they disregarded those as they are not developed sites
