China Dominates 7 Out of Top 10 Trending Keyword Registrations For .Com Domains In March

April 15, 2015 by Michael Berkens

Verisign’s has posted the top 10 trending keywords registered in .COM and .NET for the month of March

The word “China” was the top trending keyword for both .com and .net registrations in March.

The next three most trending terms in .Com were also Chinese words.

So the top 4 keywords registered in .Com were Chinese and 7 of the top 10.

Only appliance, Guys and Rehab were non-Chinese words (including China)

Certainly further proof buyers from China are moving the domain market and aftermarket

Here are the trending registrations from March for .Com and .Net

These are *not* the top keywords. These are the top *trending* keywords, i.e. looking at relative changes from month to month. There’s a subtle but important difference. Note the bottom of the VeriSign blog post (which wasn’t linked to in the article above), namely:

“Each list was developed by examining keyword registration growth by identified language relative to the preceding month, such that those keywords with the highest percentage of registration growth are being reported on. This method is used to eliminate commonly registered keywords such as “online” and “shop” to provide a true look at monthly trends by language.”

So, keywords like “online” or “shop” are amongst the top keywords. If a keyword has a low “base” number of registrations in one month, then a surge the following month, it is more likely to appear as a “trending” keyword, due to the relative change.

      Hello GeorgeKirkios,

On this particular situation you are Dead Balls on. The big Picture remains India Coming on very aggressively as well. English is predominately taught to Indias masses. China as well instated long ago, English as the preferred Educational focus of their educational System. In India and China the .COM Platform Extension is a Vanity goal. In other words DEMAND is the driver of Money velocity. Sustained Money Velocity Drives Markets JAS 4/15/15

    Hello Rick,

We are monitoring increased buying coming from the BRIC Nation India. Now we can add India as well as Chinas interest ramping up in the .COM extension Platform.

People holding .COM properties need to be more patient and discerning about selling their properties now. Better to keep your powder dry for much higher .COM valuations over the next 24 months. JAS 3/24/15
