Would you have applied for a new GTLD if you knew what you know now ?

January 31, 2015 by Raymond Hackney

On the one year anniversary of the rollout of new gtlds to the public, our January poll question was, “Would you have applied for a new GTLD if you knew what you know now ?”

We had 110 votes and 62 people voted no while 48 voted yes. This may have been a tricky question because a lot of participants may not have had the ability to embark on such an adventure due to the price.

I think if you could have been one string registry, that secured its string uncontested it would be intriguing , something like a Dot Luxury with 1315 registrations but with a very high registration price has probably netted the company a profit or close to it.

The big players of course have invested millions of dollars and will continue to invest more, that of course has the prospects for big rewards but also for a lot of volatility and potentially a loss laden venture.

      Absolutely no doubt about it.
But I know things now that none of you know, YET.
The top is about to get blown off this thing.
      Hang onto your hats folks.

Yes, only for the sake of joining a multiple contention auction bid in hopes of losing, and splitting the proceeds of the winning bid.

Looks like 900 more, and the numbers are very weak every week. Domainers are trying to unload as they are hesitant to pay steep renewals on mid level terms at $25-$50.

    The system is flawed.

I jumped all the way into it a long while ago. Acted quickly and “Stepped in it” a little bit in this particular instance. I did say “yet”. Oh well, disruption was always the goal. We’ll see how this one plays out.

      Go Seahawks !!!

No, I would get killer d0t com name(s) and build business on it. Domains will always be needed (at least for many many years to come), but IMO the future isn’t in new gtlds.

Some registries might be doing well now, but whats the point if renewals come to a halt. Still too early. Ask again in 3-5 years.

despite I’ve found several interesting domains with new gTLDs not yet registered, so far, I haven’t bought no one of them, because, before go to checkout and buy, I’m submersed by doubts, doubts, doubts, doubts, doubts, doubts, that stop me from register them

Bad investment these new GTLD’s , The internet is soon to go 3D Immersive and that leads to the 3D.coms that are all rigged up. The Gateway from the 3D Internet to the Holo Lens product as well as the others entering the 3D Virtual Network (“Apple 3D”) will be the 3D.com extension. Anyone with a generic 3D.com front or back of the word should hang on prices of all 3D .coms are skyrocketting
