ICANN Returns To Buenos Aires For June 2015 Meeting

December 5, 2014 by Michael Berkens

ICANN has just announced they have selected Buenos Aires, Argentina for ICANN 53 which will be held in June 2015.

ICANN 53 will be the  second Public Meeting ICANN meeting of 2015 and is to be held in Latin America/Caribbean region.

Whereas, staff has completed a thorough review of all proposed and available venues in Latin America/Caribbean and finds the one in Buenos Aires, Argentina to be the most suitable.

Resolved (2014.12.03.02), the Board authorizes the President and CEO, or his designee(s), to engage in and facilitate all necessary contracting and disbursements for the Meeting venue of the June 2015 ICANN Public Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in an amount not to exceed US$1.5 million.

I went to the last ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires and can only suggest you bring a good deal of cash with you because many people had a lot of problems getting cash out of ATM’s.

The government and banks in Buenos Aires  seem to restrict the amount of withdrawals of cash from ATM’s to just $100-$200 a day and many attendees even got counterfeit money out of bank ATM machines, even those inside banks.

I’m pretty surprised that ICANN is returning to the site of a pretty recent meeting.

surprised but not displeased. I only hope that Local Host and Icann will take all dipositions to facilitate visa which was an obstacle for some member of the community, like me, to be able to attend in the ICANN 48.
