Matt Cutts got a question today from someone who purchased a domain name and then found out the domain had been in trouble with Google. The domain is not currently indexed and the new owner has to do a reconsideration request.

Matt points out steps to check to see if the domain had problems in the past, like if used for spam.

I have a couple of Pets.com mugs, a talking puppet, and other memorabilia sitting around my home. They’re all a simple reminder of how not to run a company. But the mug is huge, so it’s great for hot chocolate during the cooler months (not many) here in California. Pets.com was great at marketing, not so great at wisely spending money and execution.

All that said, Pets.com now forwards to MyPetSmart.com. Eh.
