Drew Rosener says
I’d bet that same $106,000 it doesn’t get paid
Brad Mugford says
GoDaddy needs to keep an eye on this auction. I highly doubt the domain gets paid for, and it is hard to believe some bidding games were not being played here.
I have seen several other auctions that follow the same format.
Basically what happens often is 2 organized bidders run the auction to some absurd price. This blocks any other bidders who might have been interested in bidding higher, as the price has already been driven to a stupid level.
After the auction the high bidder does not pay, and the 2nd bidder has the option to purchase the domain after all high bidders bids are removed.
In this case Bidder 13 won. If that bidder does not pay Bidder 11 will have the option to purchase the domain will all their bids removed, which means the price would be when bidder 10 dropped out, or around $5K.
GoDaddy needs to do something to address the games being played at auction. The fact that auctions are public and anonymous leads to many of these problems.

Thanks for posting the bidding… the times of the bids are thrilling, since it started the last day at $1,200, and was at $2,225 with only an hour left.
I bet the owner of the domain will remember that hour for a long time.
Do you know what the reserve was?

Interesting auction, will keep an eye on the payment of this auction.

Brad is on the money, Godaddy platform got gamed, they know this, they continue to let their clients lose money by letting unqualified accounts bid with money they do not have.
Bidder 11 & 13 are most likely in collusion, this is fraud.
Unless the account is VIP, otherwise ask anyone who chooses to BID on expired auctions over $1000 to verify themselves, and let’s stop playing games with offshore guys with $10 prepaid credit cards on account. Total BS godaddy, I know you are profiting from it, and it doesn’t make it right. It has cost each, and everyone of you money.
Raymond Hackney says
Look I have said for a long time Go Daddy needs to add something, I get you are not going to get full names, that’s fine, but at least a unique bidder id. So we know if catlover has been in a lot of the same auctions with crazynuts and they have been in a lot of bidding wars together, then we can see if those auctions were paid for, if not that’s a red flag and Go Daddy can address this. This would be a top sale and reported in the weekly sales report.
Richard S says
Raymond, If godaddy let’s verified bidders, bid with shady bidders the real situation exisits that the real bidder may win the auction, and end up paying more than they need too. Godaddy maximizes profit, the customer loses in the end. This is what halvarez was all about, but you have 100 of them running around those auction sites. What are you going to do, if some punk kid does not pay, are you going to go hunt him down in some village in India, and serve them with legal papers, and sue them for everything they do not have. Are you going to block their account, so they can go to a cafe the next day, and open a new one. Yes, if we have an ID, it is very easy to see who is manipulating the system. Right now the system is a cash cow for the house, so why would the house let this deck of cards crumble?
Richard S says
Also I look forward to Godaddy posting, they realize what is going on with the system, and are working hard to fix it. The semi annual statement sure is reassuring.
Raymond Hackney says
Richard I agree we need some change to the system, that’s why I suggested bidder id’s, that’s just the start. They could say if you want to bid over $10,000 then we need more info like Sedo does.

DiscoverIndia.com is a call to action dot com and easy to recall.
If the winner does not pay, (s)he will will be a loser in real sense.
India specific geo domains should do well if this sale gets paid.

Just to put into perspective how high this number really is I listed some similar names for you readers
DiscoverGermany.com sold on 3-4-13 for $5,000
DiscoverGreece.com sold on 2-17-13 for $2,500
DiscoverBelize.com sold on 2-4-13 for $7,500
DiscoverMorocco.com sold on 12-30-12 for $1,000
I agree with Brad’s scenario.

Domain Administrator says
Checked my GoDaddy.com auction account and there it is shown as $5047 High Bid. Did they adjusted the price?
Brad Mugford says
I just noticed the same thing. The auction now shows – discoverindia.com $5,047
If you notice above that is when bidder 11 passed bidder 10.
All of the bids of bidder 13 appear to have been removed. Now Bidder 11 has the option of buying it for $5,047.
If bidder 11 does not pay that price, then their bids will be removed and the next bidder will have the option with a reduced price and so on…
This process is ridiculous. This system is ripe for game playing, shill bidding, and bid rigging.
It is bad enough to waste time finding domains and bidding then having the domain renewed, but this type of thing is making GoDaddy auctions unbearable.
Unless GoDaddy does something to address these issues then I plan on no longer bidding. It is simply not worth the hassle.
Brad
