January 29, 2014 by Raymond Hackney

Go Daddy addressed the situation about the @N Twitter user who had his account hacked.

GoDaddy takes our customers’ security seriously. Here’s an update on the situation affecting @N_is_stolen: http://t.co/73tSkfkfTr

GoDaddy Statement RE: @N Issue

Our review of the situation reveals that the hacker was already in possession of a large portion of the customer information needed to access the account at the time he contacted GoDaddy. The hacker then socially engineered an employee to provide the remaining information needed to access the customer account. The customer has since regained full access to his GoDaddy account, and we are working with industry partners to help restore services from other providers. We are making necessary changes to employee training to ensure we continue to provide industry-leading security to our customers and stay ahead of evolving hacker techniques.

Wow, Godaddy refused to help him before he was blackmailed to give up @n on twitter, which from a marketing standpoint is a great name to own.

Sorry, Godaddy it is a bit late for apologies, it is ok, since the hacker already had some info, we just assisted in changing everything around. I believe it some of the CSR reps are total airheads, when I call in, I usually have to walk them how to troubleshoot.

You need to have a in house training session, and transfer all calls of such nature to a manager in the future.

So with all the publicity will the guy get his @N username back on Twitter?

This story touches on a lot of things; domains, paypal and social usernames that are important to many in the domain world. Imagine someone gaining control of your whole domain portfolio?

this happened to a guy that got a lot of publicity from the media. imagine the regular Joe with no premium asset to make a story. godaddy would simply drop any responsibility on the matter.
