Aio Quitely Acquires AIO.com But Bucks The Trend & Uses The Longer AioWireless.com

January 2, 2014 by Michael Berkens

Aio Wireless, a prepaid cell phone company headquartered in Washington DC, has been running television commercial in heavy rotation on several cable channels including CNN.

The company’s domain name is AioWireless.com which they registered 6 years ago back in 2007.

The company quietly acquired the domain name Aio.com around May of 2013.

The domain was owned by a a large China company AIO CHINA which also had an office in San Jose California.

Although the company has owned the shorter version of the domain since May 2013, all of its marketing still is geared around the longer aiowireless.com.

The company seems to have acquired Aio.com for merely defensive purposes as Aio.com forwards to AioWireless.com

One can argue that the longer domain name is actually a better domain to use in its advertising because it tells the public what the company’s business is, which Aio certainly does not.

Raises the question of which is more compelling, dot-com brevity or missionlines?

They’re probably just following VerizonWireless.COM’s lead.
