In its earnings call today Tucows.com (TCX) said that they sold two of their new gTLD applications for a “Substantial Sum” that will be reflected in its YummyNames.com subsidiary revenue in the third quarter of 2013.
Tucows.com which was one of the applicants for .Media and .Marketing but withdrew their application for both, and combined with Unregistry’s withdrawn for the same two strings, it left Donuts as the sole applicant for .Media and .Marketing.
It has been previously reported that Tucows sold its two applications for .Media and .Marketing to Donuts in what Donuts considered to be a private auction.
Tucows referred to the transaction as a series of private arrangements
I guess we will have to wait until the next earnings call to see exactly how much Tucows got for the two applications.
It still not clear what Uniregistry got or how they got it for withdrawing their two applications as they have a stated position against engaging in a private auction.
Tucows also announced in the earnings call that they made a deal by withdrawing their new gTLD applications for .online and .group and got a minority position in not only .online and .group but also in .tech and .store, with Minds + Machines (Top Level Domain Holidings) although as Tucows disclosed those gTLD’s are still contested and they may not wind up owing any part of those gTLD’s.
