.PW Gets Over 50,000 Registration In Just 3 Weeks

April 23, 2013 by Michael Berkens

According to a press release we just received the .PW Registry today announced that more than 50,000 .PW domain names were registered in just 3 weeks since the beginning of its General Availability phase.

.PW, launched as “the Professional Web”, was available for General registrations from March 25, 2013 with a strong distribution channel of 120+ ICANN Registrars including Network Solutions, Web.com, Tucows, Name.com, eNom, Xinnet & Namecheap.

Bhavin Turakhia, CEO, .PW Registry & Radix Registry is quoted as saying:

“The registry saw more than 4,000 .pw domain registrations within 30 minutes of its launch, making it the most successful TLD launch post .XXX.”

“Our goal was 100,000 names for the first year.”

“Considering that no competing extension had come anywhere close to achieving 100,000 names in the first year, it was a goal that most considered ambitious. The feeling of achieving 50% of the goal within the first three weeks is surreal.”

“The team put together and executed a brilliant marketing plan. We are eagerly looking forward to leveraging this experience for our new gTLDs”, said .

.PW also bagged some respectable premium name deals with two single character names going for $8,000 each.

The company now intends to release all its reserved premium names through BIN sales at BuyDomains and themed auctions at NameJet.

One of the most useless “rebranded” TLDs, even worse than .WS for “website”.

    I agree 100% @joe … what’s going on… I want to see who will register .db (dirtbag)

i’m sure if you look back at other extensions (ie: .name, .ws, .mobi, .cm, .tel, .asia) they all said the same thing but with different numbers. All Hype, No Action.

At least .PW management is smart and cashing in early by releasing their, “Premium,” names before the ship sinks.

actually the .mobi registry probably cashed in more with their premium names than any other TLD to date.. and did it at the height of the domainer hype.

    RE: the .PW ship sinking…

re-branding .PW is hilarious… but people talking about “the ship sinking” are ridiculous. it isnt “sinking” when the tide simply recedes to the previous point.

it is the equivalent of a fundraiser..

I got PWhipped when I dated a cheerleader in college. I’m older and wiser now. So I’ll pass on PW.

I got Pwhipped too from other domainers so I am going to pee weed on this down the drain.

I think .pw will stick. May not sound great but if enough people become familiar with it and a few decent sites come in the extension it will be fine. Still glad I bought a few.

    @facts_pro

Creating “decent sites”, the ones that no one really cares about, takes time and money. Creating great sites, the sites that people actually want to visit, takes even more time and money. If one is planning on creating a great site, they’re not going to waste time with .PW, or any other obscure extension for that matter. (Unless it’s a cute hack, of course.)

I have enough friends and family members who don’t even know .CO exists. Why should they, even after all the advertising? Like the majority of people in the world, they aren’t domainers, and they’re used to hearing .COM all the time.

Sorry, but the only thing .PW will “stick” it to, is certain people’s wallets.
