The new .PW ‘Professional Web’ TLD launched by Directi just announced their first premium domain name sales.

The single letter domain name P.pw and W.pw were sold to the same end user for $8,000 each.

The buyer is identified as a “A European Hosting Company”

To my knowledge these are the first reported .Pw premium domain name sales.

The Landrush period for .Pw continues until March 18th and is available at over 100 ICANN accredited registrars.

During this time, unreserved premium domain names are made available at a premium price for registration to those who do not own a trademark. This is a limited opportunity to secure these names, as they may be added to the reserve list after Landrush.

During the Landrush period, .PW domains will be opened up to include 2 character ASCII names, as well as 1 character Chinese, Japanese, and Korean IDNs.

Additionally, a selection of premium .PW domains will be unreserved and made available during this period. These include high quality names such as, tours.pw, videogame.pw, expert.pw, as well as many more. T

he full list of 1,000 premium domains that will be made available can be found here: http://registry.pw/resources/download/premium_list_download.php.

Looks a bit strange but stranger things have happened. Early market sales in unproven TLDs are always a bit of a gamble but this is a repurposed ccTLD and it is unlikely to be as effective as COInternet with .co ccTLD. It is a classic newbie domainer mistake though – taking a few letters to build an acronym and trying to assign one’s own meaning to them and then trying to sell it. It might have been better marketed as a baseball TLD.

Could be a bit embarrassing to have a website like that in Ireland or the UK though. 🙂 It is one of those classic branding mistakes.

You talking like the initials for Pee Wee league? I never made that connection

If so there are some for all sports including football and hockey not just baseball

Makes a lot more sense than “professional web”. The odd thing about many European hosters is that they stick with their ccTLD brand until they become big enough to expand over a number of countries and then they flip to their .com variant as the main brand and the relevant ccTLD for each new country market. Professionalweb.com is a Marchex domain from its WHOIS. Rebranding as a .pw in Europe could be a marketing problem depending on the country and the marketshare of its ccTLD. Most European countries are 80% ccTLD/com. The only TLDs European consumers recognise are .com, their ccTLD, perhaps .eu, and the ccTLDs of adjacent countries.
