Thanks To All, As TheDomains.com Wins The Best Blog Award At TRAFFIC

October 19, 2011 by Michael Berkens

Just a quick note to thank all of you our readers; the commentators; and all of you that voted  TheDomains.com as the Best Domain Blog at TRAFFIC yesterday.

Both Judi and I are quite touched to receive the honor.

Special thanks to the organizers of the TRAFFIC show Rick, Howard and to Barbara and Alina, Ray and Kim without whose very hard work the TRAFFIC show would not be possible.

Also a special shout out to Adam Matuzich and Ray Neu, who keep the blog up and running and all of our advertisers who support us.

Finally we want to congratulate  all the bloggers who received a nomination.

Publishing a material daily for 330 out of 365 days a years, is as you would image a huge amount of work as is moderating the tens of thousands of comments our readers generously contribute, but as Adam Dicker, one of the Domain Hall of Fame inductees this year stated so eloquently “If you love what you do you never will work a day in your life.”

You can see a list of all the nominee’s and winners of the TRAFFIC award on Ricksblog.com.

While I would be quick to agree that your blog is one of the most popular and one of my personal favorites and that you are very deserving of the award … the awards themselves are nothing but a hollow gesture the organizers of the show conceived to give them and the honorees an air of self importance. They mean absolutely nothing to anyone outside of the same circle jerk of participants that you see year after year, after year, ad nauseam at these shows.

Next years awards will be the same exact names (nominees) and award winners only the categories and names will be re-shuffled around. Same monkeys, same barrel. I hope as has been promised for years now, that the industry will widen it’s scope and truly come up with something more innovative, the boys club mentality and approach is getting tiresome.

    @Dean

I agree with you. While I think Mike’s blog would have won regardless of the nominee list, I’m not sure why they included FragerFractor (whose feed is the most blocked according to Domaining.com) and not, for example, DomainShane.com, DomainIncite.com or new blogs like DomainSherpa.com.

My understanding is all it takes is one person to nominate a blog or a company or a person for a TRAFFIC award when nominations open up (other than the nominee)

If a blog or company or person you think is deserving of an award doesn’t get nominated for a particular category or award, then you didn’t spend the 30 seconds it would have taken to nominate someone by sending an email in when the nominations were opened.

“If a blog or company or person you think is deserving of an award doesn’t get nominated for a particular category or award, then you didn’t spend the 30 seconds it would have taken to nominate someone by sending an email in when the nominations were opened.”

I don’t think most of us readers have been made aware of the chance to submit a nominee.

    Joe

Anyone who has ever attended a TRAFFIC show gets an email when nominations open and many blogs write about it as well.

The period for nominations is pretty short usually only 2-3 days.

    Mike,
Irregardless of my take on the show and the organizers, I don’t wan it to detract from the luster of the award. As stated previously, I think you are well deserving of the award and I enjoy your blog immensely. Keep it coming.

Congratulations Michael – as I have told you several times, I thought that award should be sitting on your desk for the great work you have been doing for several years now. Justice has been served – thanks for all you do.
