SheMales.XXX Sells For $200,000; 3 1/2 Times More Than The .Net Sold For

October 17, 2011 by Michael Berkens

Stuart Lawley the CEO of the ICM Registry  just announced at the TRAFFIC conference that it has just sold the domain name SheMales.XXX for $200,000

Shemales.XXX is an impressive sale because there are other reported sales in the last few years in other extensions.

Back in 2007 Moniker.com sold SheMale.com for $530,000 at an the Internext Adult Domain Name Auction.

So a .XXX just sold for close to 40% of what a very similar .com sold for and the extension hasn’t even “launched” yet.

Also back in 2008, according to our friend Ron Jackson’s DNJournal.com, the exact match domain name, Shemales.net sold for $60K.

So a brand new extension just sold the exact match domain for three and a half more times than the .net sold for a few years ago.

Like I said A Pretty impressive sale.

Also during the session Mr. Lawley announced that the 1st 5 .XXX domain to be auctioned off in tomorrows TRAFFIC live domain name auction will be offered now at no reserve.

One of the domain names Chatroom.XXX was previously listed with a reserve of less than $15,000.

I have no doubt that the .xxx will dominate the domain industry market and will knock over the .com and all the other TLDs in the adult industry. Iwould never compare the .xxx domain names to similar domain names in .com, .net , .org etc becasue simply it would look like comparing apples with papers! The .xxx is specifically targeted at the adult industry, its like when you want to buy shoes you go to the shoe store NOT the butcher! So, to compare gay.com with gay.xxx makes no sense becasue if the .xxx version was there when .com was there , the .xxx would be the one which would have been sold immediately by 10 times of the .com version, becasue it fucking makes SENSE! Frank Schilling did a great strategic investment buying gay.xx for only 500k!
The .xxx stands up as a revolutionary, innovative and elite TLD that is powefully branded and works for the benefit of all stakeholders starting with the society, consumers and investors.

Congrats to everyone involved in this transaction. The .xxx extension appears to be headed in the right direction. Maybe I’ll actually participate in the land rush after all. Hopefully all the good names haven’t been sold by the registry by that time.

no doubt adult content and .xxx domains will get ample traffic. and sexual mores will continue to loosen.

but from a media perspective, who will want to advertise to that audience?

pornographic subject matter is always going to carry a huge stigma for various reasons.

if icann implodes from pushing their luck too far while having zero accountability, the .xxx regsitry might be the only one left in their coveted zonefile when the smoke clears. verisign and the cctlds will be long gone in order to save face with their constituents. .xxx may end up being icann’s legacy. a reliable money-maker but a massive eyesore. a symbol of what happens when the engineers ignore the users. and when the users cease to believe in the engineers’ abstractions, overly complex systems and fictional sources of authority.

“Derrr….with all these high dollar .x sales, I should go register all the dirty-word .x domains I can afford! Derrr…”

To you lowbrows who are new to the domain game, listen up. These .x sales could be nothing more than big money domainers flipping domains back and forth in hopes of driving the herd of domain investors to register

I wonder what the .com sold for.

“These .x sales could be nothing more than big money domainers flipping domains back and forth in hopes of driving the herd of domain investors to register”
whether if that was the case or not , the fact is that the.xxx is powerful becasue:
    1. Easily recognizable
    2. Easy to remember
    3. Easy to type
    4. Easy to market
    5. Strong brand
    6. New and will be easily adaptable to the most recent technologies on the internet.
    7. And, most importantly, DIFFERENT

Not a big surprise. .XXX is the current flavor of the month.

Look what .CO landrush auctions sold for. Many would sell for a fraction of that now.

The same is true will all previous flavor of the month extensions. The most a domain will sell for is usually when it launches.

“…I have no doubt that the .xxx will dominate the domain industry market and will knock over the .com and all the other TLDs in the adult industry…”

It’s so true…online porn business is more lucrative than other online social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Groupon etc. Because porn business is not widely talk about or not exposed by main stream media or journalists…

Adult Porn business is always “hidden ” with billion dollar profit business…so .XXX is more valuable extension than .com porn sites.

    @sayid
I expect that domain to be suspended by ICM Registry , it sounds like a “Bad Faith” because of the following reasons :
1.The name is not related to Adult, has never been and could not be in any way!
2.The name contains a name of country combined with a well-respected organization in that country.
    3. The name is specific and could have been easily registered for “bad faith ”
    4. If that name was foundation.xxx the registrant would have got it legally right.
