Why Does General Electric Own The Domain Name UpYourButt.net?

September 13, 2011 by Michael Berkens

The domain name UpYourButt.net is owned by GE.

Yes the General Electric Company.

The domain was once registered to Universal Studios which is owned by NBC, which in turn is owned by GE.

The domain name does not resolve.

The domain’s registrar is the corporate brand consultant cscglobal.com

Its a pretty strange name to see under the control of a company in the Dow Jones average and under management at a corporate registrar.

Wonder if they are going to apply for upyourbutt.xxx?

I agree with Kevin, but also with Tony…indeed, the bigger question is why Michael discovered this in the first place πŸ™‚

Exactly. I just heard it used on a rerun of Law and Order S13/E24 (2003). And I just had to look it up.

    GE owns NBC.

They registered it for a new NBC program “Up Your Butt!” with propogandist and phoney, Keith Olbermann

β€œWhy was MHB looking for it?”

As Michael has pointed out, he likes common phrases.
Or, he had a physical today.

    UpYourTush ,com is available.
    UpYourButt ,org is available.

Michael use to own UpTheTush ,com which is now available.
    He does own TurnYourHeadandCough ,com.
    πŸ™‚

It is surprising CBFleet doesn’t own a few of these.

“new NBC program β€œUp Your Butt!” with propogandist and phoney, Keith Olbermann”

Unless Chriss Mathews or CNN start the show first

ge is squatting on the name.

they know mhb owns similar names and would be interested.

they’re not using the name to its full value.

totally ruining the web, and destroying the hopes of entrepreneurs who would otherwise aim to improve our “user experience”.

this is domain name abuse. time to call cadna and complain.

They must have made the medical diagnostic equipment used in the movie Idiocracy. If I can find the right clip, I’ll post the link.

Conan O’Brien made a lot of comedic hay a few years back when he jokingly made up a domain name on the show- HornyManatee.com- and how NBC Corporate got back with him saying that he had to notify him whenever he does that, as they have some internal rule that they must buy the domain before the broadcast.

  23. ja says

    September 14, 2011 at 4:21 pm

do you think hornymanatee.com got a thundering herd of traffic after that broadcast? probably like being slashdotted. but the herd is much, much larger, and comprised of impulsive, gullible late night coach potatoes instead of skeptical computer nerds.
