Moniker.com Drops To Number 9 On the Top 10 Registrar List

June 2, 2011 by Michael Berkens

Six weeks ago we noted that Moniker.com was on Pace to drop from the worlds 8th largest registrar to the 9th.

It took two weeks longer than we estimated but now according to WebHosting.info which tracks domain registrars, Moniker.com has in fact now slipped to number 9.

Just a few months ago Moniker.com was the 7th largest registrar.

Replacing Moniker in the 8th spot, is ResellerClub.com

Moniker still have a big lead over the 10th largest  registrar,  Register.com which is still 370,000 domains away from Moniker.

    I think it’s just Reseller Club doing well… The order of the top 10 registrars is pretty much the same as last year with the exception of Reseller Club rising – passing first Register.com and then Moniker

    This chart show the top 30 or so from May 2010

    it’s really impressive the GoDaddy’s figure that is FOUR TIMES the 2nd place company!

    GPM

    If you look at the raw numbers, not just the pie chart you showed, you will see that Moniker has lost hundreds of thousands of registrations in the last few months.

    So many companies these days think Customer Service doesn’t matter.

    Makes you wonder if Oversee may be looking to get rid of Moniker.

    I can understand this. I have three domains with Moniker… three. I have a few hundred with Godaddy and probably fifty with name.com. Moniker is absolutely terrible! They are difficult to work with, the control panel is not intuitive at all and they never call you back. Also, I updated the name servers of a domain I have with them a few weeks ago and it is still loading half the time with monikers ads. At this point if Moniker can’t get their act together they could disappear and leave the domain space better for it.

    I hope they can pull it together because competition is good for all of us, but I have little confidence.

    @MHB Good Point

    Here is a chart for the increase and decrease in the number of domain registrations for each of those registrars in the last year (May 2010 – May 2011)

    The Top 30 has changed with Register.IT and MarkMonitor entering the 2011 list pushing out NamesDirect.com & Joker.com
