    Interesting.

That is a VERY short list of non .com domains.

definitely, isn’t a good moment for the domains’ market

low cost domains sold and just one big sale: iCloud.com

  4. last days to have three good things for less than one says

again, hard to understand why domains like CULIAR.com YZG.com kortingen.com afpm.com have been sold at these prices while other (and much better) domains aren’t sold

  5. MHB says

Its not about the quality of your domains Vs. the quality of these domains.

    They have exposure.

    Its the age old question

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it did it really fall?

So end users stumble across a domain, through a registrar that carried the afternic feed and the pick a name for a couple of thousand, if your domain was in there they might have picked yours but if its not in there then how would the end user know?

  6. BullS says

    May 3, 2011 at 5:53 pm

MHB–is that the best analogy you can give? that the worst!!

    How about this…

hey endusers- you are a big sucker!!

read thedomains.com why you are missing out the best domains.

  7. Odalicio says

They sure don’t turn the big individual numbers, it seems they like the churn and burn at low prices, which is okay if you have these types of domains.

    Guys

we go through this almost every week

I don’t have a horse in the race, these aren’t my domains, I didn’t sell them, buy them or get commission off of them.

However we can all see that these types of domains sell every week and the question always gets asked how do these crappy domains sell when mine don’t

    The answer is the same

    Distribution

  12. Gazzip says

    May 3, 2011 at 11:12 pm

    “The answer is the same

    Distribution”

..or is it more down to the HUGE inventory plus they have 1 to 4k fixed BIN prices perhaps?

Most weeks there seems to be less than 20 out of 200+ .com sales above 4k reported by Afternic (on your blog)

either way it seems to work great for them on a regular basis, looking at how they are priced I’d take a guess and say the majority of them were owned by afternic themselves ….but thats just a wild guess without checking 😉

…or just a coincidence there are so many repetitive sales figures ?

    “owned by afternic themselves”

all marketplaces must shake the business 🙂

“all marketplaces must shake the business”

I’m not saying they are shaking anything :), I am saying it seems to be a model that has been working very well for them (and Buydomains) for at least the last 4 or 5 years.

These guys have a huge amount of domains and they need to shift them quickly….and they do 🙂

using marketplaces like eBay etc. my true sensation always was/is that all these sites are often a bit “pumped” by external “friends”

    Gazzip

We all know that buy domains famously uses asking prices in ending in 88

This is a throwback to Mike Mann’s days when he owned the company.

So your right you will see lots of sales and prices of their own inventory at

    $2,988

    $2,488

    $1,688

    $1,288

    $888

When I talk of distribution I’m talking about their network which hits most of the largest registrars and offers premium domain options when people search for domains to register with buy it now options.

  18. Gazzip says

    May 4, 2011 at 8:58 am

Perhaps, but its a tiny niche/industry and if the same small group of people have been around for over 10 years they’re bound to know each other by now, it would be impossible to have so many domain articles/blog posts without mentioning them. 😉

Reporting facts isn’t the same thing as pumping but it is important to be able to spot the difference if/when pumping does happen.

Knowing what sells and for how much is good info to know for all of us…and so is figuring out the why 🙂

  19. ::: now online my new site for all my domains on sale ::: says

    May 4, 2011 at 10:48 am

so we can have hope to sell well also our ugliest domains 🙂
