The House IP & Internet Subcommittee is holding a hearing next week on the new gTLD program.

It looks like the hearing has been requested by IP interests to be a forum for their complaints that the trademark and other IP protections in new Guidebook that was published on April 15th.

Look for ICANN to be called on the carpet at the meeting.

Yup this is the benefit of having a strong well funded trade organization, unlike domainers

I would not be surprised at all if someone throws a big spanner in the works for ICANN, there is very little logic in what ICANN is doing, its all about the money and the big bonus checks.

“ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable.”

Keeping the internet secure will prove more difficult for ICANN to do if all the most qualified staff jump ship to go and start up their own TLD’s 😉

Just becauseTHEYCANN make more money doesn’t mean they should 🙂
