TechCrunch.com. just published that the domain name Power.com will be sold at an auction that ends on August 17, 2011.
Interested parties can pre-register on the website in order to receive detailed instructions for the auction in May 2011.
According to TechCrunch Power.com raised $6 million in funding before as a aggregatior of social networking sites but was promptly sued by Facebook and now it appears the site is done.
The domain name is for sale and is being exclusively brokered by a company named RokMe, you can follow @PowerAuction if you’d like to stay updated on the auction.
Here are some “facts” from the Power.com site:
- Power.com was hand-registered in 1992
- Power.com has never been made available for sale to the public
So how much do you think the domain is worth?
That name with an alternative energy company…
would be killer
or for a site about the political and financial Power
Google already has a quarter-of-a-billion-dollar involvement in renewable energies.
30 billion Euros will be spent on a new power network in the North Sea.
China will invest more than $700 billion over the next 10 years into renewable energy projects.
(The U.S. are spending less on that than China and Germany, though.)
Environment aside, this simply is a huge field for new economic activity.
“or for a site about the political and financial Power”
nah….SOB.com would be far more appropriate for that 🙂
hundred dollars… k-mart sucks.
good for viagra
Quite a few years ago I was in talks to buy the name power.com, the lady at the time ended up cutting our discussion off when she was approached by above mentioned company… they promised her this and that, she would be set for life, have a rev stream etc etc etc. Wonder what she ended up with ultimately because I know my offer was very good. I hope she didnt exchange the name for shares!
Could it be worth as much as 1 mil?
good subdomain possibilities.
Many positive conotations; many uses. Should make over $750k given the time available for potential buyers to notice it…could go to $5m. I know that’s a wide range but it’s an auction – there’ll be plenty of buyers at the low end but if they get two or more with a hard on for it…
and for site about how to increase the sexual Power …. ??? 🙂
The owner should let the guy at wn.com know its up for sale
He owns oil.com, electricity.com, petrol.com, powerplant.com, gas.com, hydroelectric.com, renewableenergy.com ..and on …and on ….and on 😉
cgi.wn.com/wnlinks/index.html
This domain has the ability to become a recognizable brand for any product/service. Lots of possibilities. Versatile.
I’m guessing 5+ million, If I owned it – I wouldn’t part for anything less 🙂
It’s definitely a domain with extreme desirability amongst utility companies worldwide, that is if the brokers make contact with them.
What’s bothering me here, and I’m not going to criticize the ability of RokMe to broker the sale, is that the owners should be riding the sedo wave with their recent 13M sale of sex.com
That sale and similar has pretty much entrenched sedo’s position as the ‘goto’ for premium killer keyword dotcom’s. Ironically TechChurch also profiled this domain back in 2008.
(some great historical screen shoots too)

Coincidently prior to the news of this sale I’ve been a keen observer of electricity.com and the owners future for it. Current – ly (pun intended 🙂 ) it’s on autopilot running news feed related to it’s niche.
This sale will be interesting indeed to say the least.
It’s worth $ 2,620,000 USD 🙂
Nice vanity name that would fit the needs for many possible buyers. Easy $x.xxx.xxx, even in today’s market.
As a TV Channel – it could be several mils
CNN could use it to complement Money.com
I like the Alternate energy / Sexual enhancing ideas presented – but that wont get top dollars.
Name of another Trump reality apprentice show for losers promoting Corporate Liferism in an international diversified mismanagement company – what is 10 mils worth to NBC – considering all the other geniuses they employ like Chris Matthews
end user no development 1M
wholesale 100K
what did it sell for?
