WSJ: Amazon To Roll Out “Media Locker” Tomorrow

March 28, 2011 by Michael Berkens

According to the Wall Street Journal,Β  Amazon.com is rolling out what they are calling a Media Locker service as early as tomorrow.

The Amazon product will allow people to store music and video online and access it from various digital devices.

“The online retailer appears to be racing Apple Inc. and Google Inc., both of which are also working on similar offerings, known as “locker” or “cloud” services.”

“Such services create an online music or video collection identical to the one on a user’s computer hard drive, then let the user access the collection from elsewhere.”

I’ll save you the trouble of looking.

MediaLocker.com is owned by well known domainer Gregg Ostrick.

    They could use –

    MediaBookcase(,)com or
    MediaFileCabinet(,)com
    πŸ™‚
    No longer reg’d.

It is dump these companies don’t own the domain
    before announcing the service.

Maybe, they figure it will be cheaper to eventually
get it thru UDRP. If the domain owner screws up.

They don’t need the domain if the service will be accessible by app on mobile phones and software on pc / mac.

I agree Gnanes by using the name they basically take the play away from the domain owner. They don’t need it, it will be right on the Amazon site, or right in the app store. Once it becomes well known what does the domain owner do ? If he tries to compete using the name in some other area, its confused for the Amazon product. If they use it in the same field, UDRP and Amazon got the name.

Woops I forgot to add this bit. This demonstrates the problem of putting price tags on domains.
Mike if you remember I brought this problem up with the panel you sat on at Domainfest.

Is it already available in the U.S.? Seems most of their cloud offerings are not promoted outside America?

So they have’nt actually said they’re calling it media locker yet.

MediaBay.com would be a sweet alternative to MediaLocker …..maybe they’re already in amongst all the bidders over at Namejet right now ?? πŸ˜‰

    Adam

That is exactly the problem and you do remember my comments from DFG.

So the seller got $18,500 for the domain and after commission winds up with $15k-$17K (depending on the commission schedule they are on)

The domain today is a six figure domain.

Putting a price on your domain will increase the number of sales but also leave some low picking fruit for someone to grab while news breaks while your sleeping.
