According to Covers.com, Iowa may become the first state that will allow online gambling.

The Iowa Senate will vote shortly on a bill that would its citizens to play online poker.

The New Jersey’s bill that would have allowed all types of online gambling within state lines, was vetoed by the Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie on  Thursday.

“If we don’t make a move now, the federal government is going to make a move in the next few years, and we’ll lose the revenue to the federal government,” Sen. Rick Bertrand, R-Sioux City, told the Des Moines Register.

Iowa’s proposed bill would have gamblers open accounts with casinos and then log on from their personal computers.

online gambling is common in Europe and it’s always better to legalize it rather than leave it in a wild area

I find it incredible that in The USA online gambling is banned, we bet on everything, including in play betting over here in UK, i really don’t see what the big deal is.

Rumor has it that pressure on the federal level had something to do with the bill being nixed in NJ. Looks like it may be passed on a federal level sooner than expected (one can only hope.)

This is a non-story. Iowa’s new governor is an old-school republican – I have no doubt that he’ll veto any bill that comes across his desk that would expand gambling in Iowa.

Gambling-addiction is now rampant in the midwestern states as compared to thirty years ago – all thanks to casino gambling. Families have been destroyed by this stuff; some people just can’t handle it when the temptation is thirty minutes away as opposed to having to fly to Vegas.

I hope this bill goes nowhere.

    Todd,
Sorry my friend but you couldn’t be more wrong – Iowa’s “new” Governor is the same one who signed the bill to allow gambling in Iowa in the first place! He was out of office for 12 years but is now back. One of his main goals is to find a way to cut corporate income taxes for his big donors and is looking to do it by increasing taxes on the current gambling operations in the state. A chance to increase tax collections from gambling by allowing online gambling is something he will find hard to resist. So not only is this a real story, it is very likely that Iowa will become the first state to allow legal online gambling. Look out PokerStars.net, Iowa is in the house!
