February 2, 2011 by Michael Berkens

VeriSign, Inc. has been selected by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to operate the domain name registry for .gov.

“Following a competitive RFP and evaluation process, the GSA granted Verisign the authority to provide designated domain name registration services to federal, state and local governments operating sites under the .gov and fed.us domain names. @MHB,

    I see your new Right of the Dot biz – answer me this….why would this strategy work when people essentially are most interested in shorter URL’s? I can’t understand how your approach to this whole thing will work. Please educate me, I really want to see this from your perspective – love to learn 😉

    Big

    I’m planning on covering RIGHT OF THE DOT in a detailed post over the weekend or my Monday, impossible to do at DomainFest.

    @MHB,

    Ok – look forward to reading it. I hope you’re ready for a fiery debate/discussion, because the .com-lovers will not be receptive to the plan. I love ccTLD’s, so I’m all for new approaches, but don’t see how longer URL’s will work. I’ll shut up now – have fun at D-Fest. 🙂

    @Cheese: If something is well thought out and makes solid business sense, I don’t think you’ll find too much argument.

    But just shouting “.MOBI!!!” or “.CO!!!” from the rooftops, well then, don’t be surprised if a ‘debate’ breaks out 😉
