The Registrar’s That’s A Parked Page: Welcome To Samoandomains.ws A SnapNames Dropcatcher

February 1, 2011 by Michael Berkens

SAMOANDOMAINS, LLC is a domain name registrar used by SnapNames.com to catch dropping domains.

Their referring URL site if you look up a whois record of a domain name that is registered there is http://www.samoandomains.ws

If you visit the registrar you’ll find what I found, the registrar is a parked page.

The domain I back ordered with SnapNames and got registered back in October with this registrar, was becomeafan.com

Here is how the whois record looked:

Domain Name: BECOMEAFAN.COM
Registrar: SAMOANDOMAINS, LLC
Whois Server: whois.dotster.com
Referral URL: http://www.samoandomains.ws
Name Server: NS1.MOSTWANTEDDOMAINS.COM
Name Server: NS2.THIS-DOMAIN-IS-4-SALE.COM
Status: ok
Updated Date: 28-jan-2011
Creation Date: 26-oct-2010
Expiration Date: 26-oct-2011

>>> Last update of whois database: Sun, 30 Jan 2011 15:54:52 UTC <<<

Registrant:
Worldwide Media, Inc
PO Box 129
Highlands, NC  28741
US

Registrar: SAMOAN
Domain Name: BECOMEAFAN.COM
Created on: 26-OCT-10
Expires on: 26-OCT-11
Last Updated on: 02-DEC-10

We found this issue as we attempted to transfer this domain to another registrar, but the interface on the parked pages was pretty lacking to manage the domain.

)))::

Now in complete fairness the parked page did have links for domain registrars and other related links but the main focus of the parked page seems to be for other items as the top two links go to American Samoa College and to Intuit whom I sure are thrilled with paying $x per click for traffic from the registrar.

Not sure if parked domain registrar is exactly in compliance with  ICANN rules and regulations for the operation of a registrar.

I also find it hard to believe that SnapNames would use a registrar tag that doesn’t even have an operating site.

I seen it before, you become aware when you try to out from mickeymouseandfriends.og
I even recall a domainmonkeys dot something same deal .
Quite a few companies lose their listing or rather acreditation for the same reason ,
(plenty of threads at the old domainstate .com on the subject)
In the name of a dollar…

I always wondered why Oversee couldn’t simply go ahead and change the registrar to Moniker for these types of drops (+ move contacts). You can manage changes transparently through the Moniker interface but it still doesn’t feel very clean.

Maybe it costs them at the registry level to perform that type of change? Dunno how that works.

My guess is it is in your mydomain.com account (because of the Dotster whois). Whenever I transfer from Snapnames I first fetch Moniker, Mydomain.com and Answerable accounts, they have most of those no-name fake registrars.

You cannot compare non english domain keywords with their english counter parts. Especially when the word also has a weak english use and verges on undesired or low level keyword. I think all things considered ( like potential targeted spanish investment traffic lol btw ) it got too much at $37k.

Disregard above reply, wrong topic 🙂

    Frantisek is probably right.

“The domain is now registered to you. The registrar now managing your registration is Samoan Domains.
Your domain name was registered through Samoan Domains managed by mydomains.com. “

HUH? This has been going on for years!

    Mike,

That particular registrar portal changed names in the not too distant past and is now samoandomains.com. It is owned and operated by our friends across the river at Dotster.

It’s a huge conspiracy that must involve Hank Alvarez, fraud, James Bond, and the US legal system. The domain conspiracy theorists are satisfied with nothing less.

In reality, Oversee owns 1,000,000+ domains. Such small lapses are to be expected.

    @ Hal Meyer
Such small lapses are to be expected.
    ————

    What lapses?

SnapNames used a registrar tag that doesn’t even have an operating site,
    for … QUITE SOME TIME…
(possibly not in compliance with ICANN rules/regulations for registrars)

Hank Alvarez (Nelson Brady) helped to STEAL MONEY from some of your brother Domainers for 3 years,
    while working for SNAPNAMES/OVERSEE Auctions.
    AND
I personally am still waiting for the release of the person that RELEASED
Private WHO-IS Information for CRIMINAL intentions at Moniker, AND
a statement that no other infractions occurred.

Why you of all people Hal would try to downplay all this as,
“conspiracy theorists nonsense is beyond me”
