Guest Post: Ron Sheridan Heads Up Portland Domainer Meetup

January 12, 2011 by Michael Berkens

This is a guest post is by Ron Sheridan, who as most of you know was a long time employee of Oversee and now is working on developing and launching  RSS.com:

“Back in October I had the good fortune of attending the domain cruise put on myChefPatrick.com (Patrick Rudell).  Patrick did something at the event that for me made the event incredibly valuable:  he asked each person in attendance to come to the front of the room and talk about themselves.  What resulted was an amazing and insightful exploration of first hand accounts of domainer business histories and strategies for success.  I think I learned more about the state of the domain investment/development business in that session than I had in a long time.

After arriving back in Portland, (my new home since leaving Oversee.net) I was inspired and found myself longing for even a small taste of that experience again.  So I reconnected with Jonathan Stanfill (of SnapNames/Moniker) to talk again about starting a Portland, Oregon domainer networking group, and holding our first get together.  Jonathan had already begun to create PortlandDomainers.com, so we only needed to commit to a date.

Well we have.

Jonathan and I are excited to announce that kick off event for the PortlandDomainers.com networking group will take place on Tuesday January 25th at 6pm at the Vie De Boheme Winery in SE Portland.

We invite all Portland and NW area domain industry professionals to attend.

SnapNames/Moniker has stepped up as lead sponsor so Food and Desert will be provided from 6-8pm, as well as live entertainment till.  We will have our own private banquet room which should afford us the chance to network and share our experiences and ideas in a relaxing environment.

To RSVP or inquire about sponsoring etc please visit www.PortlandDomainers.com website.

We look forward to getting together with fellow domain industry professionals to share good food, wine and our own stories.”

While I am on the opposite coast and won’t be attending, it sounds like a fabulous idea and great time for comradery and networking. It shows both good faith and generosity on the part of SnapNames/Moniker to sponsor your event.

    Much Success

    Hello Mike,

In my opinion Portland is the next mecca for web creation. Lots of talented people looking for an opportunity. Look for big things to happen there in near future. I cannot wait to get back there and am looking forward to the great successes that Portland deserves. Stephen Douglas deserves some credit for what is happening there for sure. I love PORTLAND !

    Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group)

My biggest regret of last year was not buying Portland.org, when it sold at the 10K level.

Love P-Town, love the people and ambiance… Raised there for a part of my adolescence and remember the city before it became Hipster mecca, but still… a great, great town… If I were to ever leave Chicago, it would be to move there.

Portland.org was a good buy for $10K if it makes you feel any better I have a LONG list of domains I wish I had bought.

PacNW domainers would be wise to attend, Ron Sheridan is one of the most knowledgeable minds in the domain space. I worked for/with Ron directly for a number of (great!) years and any chance to pick his brain should not be missed.

Thx for the kinds words all.

I hope any domainers in the area to try to attend.

fyi: DomainTools.com has stepped up as a sponsor as well.

On another cool note, this is the day (Jan 25th) that the Demand Media IPO is scheduled to go off. Paul Stahura is on the invite list but I expect he’s gonna be a bit preoccupied. My best wishes to the Demand team.
