Google’s Global Search Share Declines

July 26, 2010 by Michael Berkens

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Google’s share of the global online search market fell to 69.7% in the second quarter from 71.1% in the first quarter.

Baidu the largest search engine in China, now has a global share nearly as large as that of Microsoft  and Yahoo .  The report shows that Baidu’s global market share is 4.5% compared to 4.8% for Microsoft and 5.4% for Yahoo.

The total global advertising search market was $6.2 billion, up 2.2% from the first quarter.

The Microsoft and Yahoo market shares are so modest that it’s hard to imagine that even when they are combined, as is planned, they will grab much more than 10% of the global market.

I use Bing.com almost exclusively for search and have gotten to like Yahoo for news a lot more lately.

I think that regular patterns of search have been disrupted a bit lately as folks search for better sources. I just don’t find Google giving me great results anymore and FoxNews, CNN, and USA Today are not as good as Yahoo News really so I have moved away from big G and the regulars for news. BBC for news is pretty good also.

the Google SE “decline” is only an ILLUSION… within five years, 90% of the Web (and also Bing and Yahoo) will be in the Google’s hands… 😐

Other actors include Sogou, Soso, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

However, Baidu and Google account for almost 95% of China’s search engine market…
