Network Solutions Raising Prices By $.50 “Blaming Registry Increases”

I got the following notice from NetworkSolutions.com over the weekend stating that they are raising the price of their registrations on August 6th by $.50 for several extensions.

Of course all registrars are entitled to charge whatever they want to an end user for a domain, but I’m bothered by the statement in the notice blaming the price increase,  on increases by the respective registry’s.

We all know that Verisign increased the prices of .Com’s & .Net’s by 7% on July 1, 2010, but the notice says Network Solutions.com is raising the prices of com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us and .name due to increases of the registries.

I know of no price increase of the registries for .org, biz, .info .us or .name.

To increase prices is fine, but to blame the price increases on registries that did not increase their price is just wrong.

Here is the notice:

“””Dear Valued Network Solutions® Customer,

As a registrar of domain names, we are subject to domain pricing changes from the registry that manages the domain databases.

This email is to notify you that we will be incurring a price increase for certain domain extensions.

Beginning August 6, 2010, there will be a $0.50 per domain, per year increase for the acquisition, renewal and transfer cost of the following domain extensions: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us and .name.””

I contacted a rep of Net Sol on Twitter and they confirmed the notice was genuine.

IMHO their intention was not.

What, are they going to start charging $35.50? Or is this on discounted rates?

I guess they are going to start charging $35,50 for a or regular renewal but they do offer multi-year discounts, not sure if they are going up as well but its sounds like

if people paying 35$ there then 35.5$ is not an issue to them 😀

Wait… I don’t understand. Do domainers still register domains at Net Sol? Or even renew them there?
    Em-Bee… say it ain’t so!

I left NetSol in 2005, transferred out any domains that I bought that were registered there within a year. Just dealing with them on a domain sale is like — well, 1998.

NSI is the BP of the domain industry.

Why have you singled out Netsol?

I believe many of the major registrars (like Enom) raised prices across the board?

I’m not going to defend registrars.
If anything, I would rather do the opposite.
But, registrars are opportunist just like domainers.

For example, BuyDomains owned OilSpill, org for years.
And I bet the price quoted Feb,2010 was different than last month.
It looks like they sold it last week.
Lets see if they supply the sales price thru DNJ.

r.m. – the reason is that NetSol is blaming registry price increases, but that’s not true (except for .com/.net)

    I just doubled check.

All of my costs went up this week in Enom (etp acct)
    including .org, .info, .us, .biz.

Moniker’s .tv price went from $32.99 to $12.99!!!! I just created a support ticket to ask for price increases/decreases across the board.
