The Top 1,000 Baby Names For 2009 Just Published, Every .com Is Taken

May 9, 2010 by Michael Berkens

The Social Security Administration publishes an annual list of the 1,000 most popular baby names for boys and girls and just released its list for 2009.

It may not surprise you to learn that every matching .com for each of the 1,000 most popular boys and 1,000 most popular girls is taken.

The most recently registered domain, by creation date was Jazlynn.com, which has a creation date of March 10, 2010.

Interesting to note that out of the 2,000 domains, only 52 have a creation date after 1/1/2005 and almost 1,600 of them have a creation date of before 2000.

Over 400 have a creation date before 1995.

The oldest domain on the list, Ray.com registered way back in 1986.

Of the 2,000 domains, We own 101 of them.

“Over 400 have a creation date before 1995”.

The internet was all text based back then and those that registered a domain name were definitely way ahead of the curve. Seems like I read that what internet existed at that time was mostly tied in with United States universities.

MOSTLY text based before 1995 – we had graphical browsing on NeXT, and I think Mosaic was already out before that.

In the UK at least, internet access (text based via Compuserve) was already becoming available to the masses in 1993. Admittedly the masses didn’t know what it was then 🙂
