I really like this series of “themed” auctions. It seems these can be targeted so much better to groups of potential buyers within a particular niche.

I believe another possible enhancement down the road is to begin running themed auctions around a specific geo location and focus marketing of the auction to businesses in that city or locality. For example, every domain in the auction list would begin with the city (or state), and every domain would be a very pure keyword related to an industry like “real estate” or “insurance”.

Moniker tried this a year ago with City+RealEstateListings.com. The auction was not successful though in part due to the recession, but mostly because the key phrase, “RealEstateListings”, was just not pure enough. The problem with a really long tail domain like that is that there are too many other viable substitutes for the phrase “RealEstateListings”.

A themed auction built on the more pure: City+RealEstate.tld or City+Homes.tld would be a far, far superior choice and draw much more interest from the local business community.
