Yawn, more crap names from Latona. If this is the “best” the domain industry can provide it doesn’t look good. Maybe he should auction some watches of those watches he advertises on his domain site.

Seriously, most of what Rick Latona has done lately with respect to domai auctions can only be classified as a flop. In his defense I guess he has the reserves right, a buck is what most of these names is worth. And please don’t try to convince me that because some of the names sold for decent money last week that they were of decent quality because most were not. All you have to do to prove that there are suckers out there who will buy anything is look at the domain garbage that gets dropped everyday only to be picked up by suckers and noobs whos simply dont know any better. Sorry Rick Latona, while you get points for trying you’ve actually lost more points than you earned by revealing the crappy “in house” names which I assume you purchased for yourself. I suppose you monetized them for a few years too. More proof that even the big names in the domain business have a ton of crap domain names within their portfolios. I feel sorry for the poor saps who wasted ppc dollars on that traffic. So what have you done lately, the Adult action FAIL, the Traffic auction FAIL, this auction (on quality alone)FAIL. Sorry dude thats 3 striles, you are out!

wonder if they will continue the insider shill bidding on these domains like they did last time.

  3. Cartoonz says

    April 13, 2010 at 5:05 pm

why all the hateful spew? If you don’t like any of the names, don’t buy ’em.

They all start at $1 and there are actually some on that list that are worth quite a bit.

Nobody billed this as the premium name auction of the century, so the comments above must be coming from some other issues.

    Greg

Now that you throw this little accusation out there, can you back it up with specifics?

  5. Rick Latona says

    April 13, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Man guys. Greg, who are you and why would you say something like that? Who was the shill bidder? Why on earth would there be shill bidding on my first launch? That would be stupid, crazy, illegal, irresponsible, and a litany of other terms.

All I’m trying to do is make sure our system doesn’t have any bugs before I list other people’s names.

  6. Bill Sweetman says

    April 13, 2010 at 5:45 pm

“yuk” and “Greg”, what have you done lately (if ever) to breathe some life into the domain investing industry?

At least Rick is trying new and innovative ways to market and sell domain names. Is he going to hit a home run every time at bat? No. But at least Rick’s stepping up to the plate.

Our industry needs more people like Rick who are willing to try new things. We can all learn from seeing what works and what doesn’t, and this keeps Rick’s competitors from getting complacent.

Good luck with the auction, Rick.

  7. Aron says

    April 13, 2010 at 5:50 pm

    Agreed Bill,

Rick is at least progressing forward and trying to lead…

If he’s attempting to be a respected auction house, I’d say there is nothing shady or illegal going on.

GL with the auction Rick… keep at it. 🙂

    Aron

    “. . . most of what Rick Latona has done lately . . .”

And just exactly what have you done lately–or ever–for the industry?

    Likely nothing.

Rick and his team are some of the most creative, hardest working folks there are–in any field.

Yuk. Fits you like a glove.

    And “Greg.”

Prove it, provide evidence, or keep your baseless comments to yourself.

  9. Mike says

    April 13, 2010 at 6:57 pm

Who bitches about a $1 reserve auction? Someone with a beef with Latona I would assume. Maybe a competitor?

Also, why is it so upsetting that the auctions were “failures” in your eyes? Who cares if they were failures other than Latona and other vested interests? Life goes on, even if there is an auction failure. Who cares?

If I thought the auctions were failures or had bad domains I simply would look elsewhere. This is why I don’t usually buy domains on Snap b/c almost all are trash……but it does not upset me or make me angry.

I agree with the other posters, Rick has done a ton for this industry. Have you ever seen his full page ads in the Internet Retailer magazine and elsewhere? He is actually reaching outside our incestous industry to bring new blood in.

I do think the last list was better, but hey, he’s working out the bugs, etc…..

Buy ’em if you want, or don’t. Pretty simple.

    Way to go Rick!

even the names expiring in snapname auctions are better than these.. (even those without bidders)

  12. Tim says

    April 13, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Jeff…..do the bids start at $1 at Snap ?

Chances are you’ll start off paying 59-79 times more ($59-$79) just to start off with them for most domains.

Again, who bitches about a $1 reserve?

  13. jeff says

    April 13, 2010 at 7:31 pm

The names on snap are also 90 times better

  14. MHB says

    April 13, 2010 at 7:39 pm

    Guys

Listen, there are tens of thousands of names on snap’s platform, some are good and many are shit.

Welcome to the world of domaining.

Funny thing about domaining is what you like I hate and what I hate you bid on, such is life.

Here are domains on snap’s platform right now with more than 10 bids at $59 or $79 starting and I wouldn’t pay $1 for any of them, but I guess many of you would.

If you want to argue that these domains are 59x or 79x better than every domain on Latona’s list go ahead, I’m off to watch American Idol, where I think we can all agree everyone sucks.

    Done.

you have your winners, some losers in the mix.

keep up the great work rick and ignore the noise and non sense from these so called domainer experts imo.

    @ Bill Sweetman

Unlike yourself Bill I’ve done nothing for the domain industry but sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. I suppose you consider Yummy Names ( a domain name sales platform built off of the backs of unsuspecting tucows customers who inadvertantly or otherwise let their domain names expire which you and your greedy cohorts scooped up for your own use and profit) What an amazing accomplishment, your mother must be very proud. Compared to you Rick Latona is like Mother Theresa.

You are right Latona does step up to the plate and take chances. Again unlike you and your scum services at tucows. The only time you step up to the plate is to pick at the scraps left by your clients after they leave the table. Seriously Bill do you send out renewal notices or do you just skip that step in the hopes that you’ll be the beneficiaries of yet another abandoned domain name.

You really think that by selling off your clients inventory for your own benefit and monetizing and marketing trademark typos for sale makes you a contributor in the domain business. Seriously man consider a name change to YUKKY NAMES.

The good news for you BIll is that you are so close to the bottom of the barrel in this busiess that everything is looking up for you from here. LOSER.

I will agree with you on one level, the industry could use more people like Rick Latona, and LESS people like YOU.

  20. My 2 cents says

    April 20, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Looks like Latona is giving away some more domains cheap right now.

The 3rd round of his online auction ends in a couple minutes and only a few people have bid.

This time it is not Rick giving his domains away.
They belong to one of his buddies (maybe not after tonight) who offered
    to start at $ 1,000.

    I saw a few that are worth $ xx,xxx but going for $ x,xxx.

We will see if there are a number of snipers at the end.
