GoDaddy.com Passes 40 Million Domain Mark & Has 50% Market Share Of All New Domain Registrations

March 10, 2010 by Michael Berkens

Go Daddy announced today that it has just surpassed 40 million, registered domain names.

Godaddy said it typically registers a million domain names per month.

Godaddy also says they have a 50% market share of all active new domains registered in the world and is more than three times the size of its closest competitor.

Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons is quoted as saying:

“”The Go Daddy portfolio surpassed 40 million domain names today.  The Internet is the heart of the new economy,” said . “The Internet is one of the few sectors showing monumental growth and Go Daddy is positioned in the sweet spot of the expansion. Think about it, to have your own Web site, you need a domain name and no one can deliver on a domain like Go Daddy. Our growth is essentially a window into what’s happening with the Internet.”

“For the last two consecutive years, Go Daddy has been registering, renewing or transferring a domain name at the rate of one every second of every day.”

Wow

“Over the next twenty-five years, I see the Internet growing exponentially,” said Parsons. “Think about it, whether you are communicating, learning or conducting business, being on the Internet is where it’s all happening. I’d say if you aren’t online with your business, you really aren’t in the game.”

Go Daddy’s growth is benefiting people looking for jobs right now too.   Currently there are more than 100 open positions available at www.GoDaddy.com/Jobs.

I don’t want to sound like a GoDaddy commercial since I don’t agree with everything that they do as a company. However, I am a big believer in giving credit where credit is due. GoDaddy’s domain prices led the market and fueled domain investing especially during the earlier years.

Also, I have used their webhosting fairly extensively which has outperformed almost every other hosting company I have ever used. That’s valuable. And it creates brand loyalty. I place high value on any company that actually delivers. In my experience so far, GoDaddy have delivered.

    Max

You have to admire a company that came out of basically nowhere to not only surpass hundreds of other competitors but become the number 1 company in the space in a relatively short time.

Prices are one component of their success but there is much more to it, including those Super Bowl commercials

As much as I like underdogs and would for example like to move my domains to say Moniker I can’t seem to bring myself to it. In particular the customer service staff whether it be for domains or hosting at Godaddy is very good. Calling Moniker you end up speaking to someone in the Philippines with a horrible connection finding yourself having to repeat things over and over again.

Customer Service is the most important aspect of a company that resonates with me.

    Pay attention domainers.

The No. 1 domain reg company on Earth has a name WITHOUT “domain” in it.

Great name that they have branded to encompass not only domains but non-domain related products & services, to appeal to the mainstream.
Must be making a ton of $$$, too.

GD is a bit like Amazon.com in that if Amazon had chosen books.com or similar – boyoboy – they would have regretted it for being too restrictive as they branched out into selling anything & everything.

    Aggro

I don’t know of many registrars that have the word “domain” in their URL however what does that mean?

What’s the deal with GoDaddy Marketplace. It seems a little out of place, no ?

Hello Businesswebsites – Moniker is the 7th largest ICANN accredited Registrar in the world and as a global company as Oversee, we own and operate 117 registrars and rank as number 3 in the world in domains under management. We have implemented several new customer service systems and processes through out our growth, including implementing a new Customer Support Ticket system that is actually working quite well now. You can also reach any of our Customer Service and Sales reps by direct extensions, email, IM, etc.

Please send me a personal email with your contact info and your account number and I will make sure you are taken care of.

The Role Over support help is through Offshoring – a well known and respected offshore support company that supplies these services to some of the largest companies in the world. I apologize if you have had a bad experience with them and we have changed the way they are activated in our call overflow system as well.

BTW – Moniker – means name, brand, and nickname.

    I hope this helps.
