CNN.com Invests Millions In A .IN

December 9, 2009 by Michael Berkens

According to reports CNN.com is investing in Outside. In, a start-up that feeds neighborhood blogs and other local news and information to sites of newspapers, TV stations and other media.

Also CNN.com, plans to put Outside. In information on its own home page in the local news section.

Outside. In already feeds neighborhood information to several news organizations, including the Chicago Tribune and the New York Post.

Outside. In’s existing lead investor is Union Square Ventures, but yesterday announcement said a fresh $7 million was invested and although CNN.com declined to say how much of the new, $7 million funding they put in,  their investment in cash and exposure for this site is in the millions.

And yes domainers I will save you the trouble, the domain outsidein.com is already owned by outside.in.

Outside.in is set up on the website below (if you were curious to see what it does).

The website still is not complete, but outside.in is working.

That’s awesome news. I hope they keep the .in brand even with all the extra cash. Of course, it’s for my own selfish reasons, as I own hundreds of premium .in geos. But one way or another, .in will be synonymous with local content. You heard it hear first 🙂
