In what is turning out to be a very busy Fatherday (Best wishes to all of you our there), Namejet.com announced today that is will be start to hold domain auctions with reserve prices for selected domains.

NameJet.com generally starts all auctions for the backorder fee of $69.

However starting today certain domains will carry a reserve price.

These domains are clearly owned domains, rather than dropped domains.

It will be quite interesting to see how this plays out as NameJet.com now joins Snapnames.com as a player in the aftermarket auction field.

The 4 domains with a reserve price now available at NameJet.com are:

comedyclubs.net reserve is  $ 2,000

Potpourrigifts.com reserve is $3,000

centralamerica.net reserve is $ 7,000

snowmobiles.net reserve is $ 10,000

Offhand none of these seem like any big bargains but we will see how this new format does.

I agree Michael none of the 4 seem great, Snowmobiles.net would be only one I would like but it seems fully priced at the reserve. Again IMO

As a matter of principle I will not particpate in any reserve auctions at Namejet and I suggest everyone else boycott them as well.

What kind of comment is that?

I don’t have any of my domains for sale thru Namejet but I think it is a good idea that domainers have alternatives to our present options.

I agree with Domain Inv, how can you just say you are going to boycott NJ on the names with reserves?

Are sellers not entitled to set a reserve?

Do you boycott every item with a reserve on ebay.com?

    I found this on domaintools:

Registration Service Provided By: NameJet, LLC
    Contact: steve.brown@namejet.com

    Domain name: comedyclubs.net

    Administrative Contact:
    NameJet, LLC
    Steve Brown (steve.brown@namejet.com)

I wonder if this present a conflict of interest. So does that mean they can bid against us? Furthermore, they can see our proxy bid.

I got this answer from Steve Brown GM @ NameJet.com:

“””When we start the auctions for private listings we insist that the name is under our control. This often results in a transfer into an account that NameJet controls and therefore has NameJet and my name on it.””

“”It is a holding account so that we have control over the name during the auction and for provisioning after the auction closed and paid.””

“”Short answer, not owned by NameJet or me.””
